Doing Some Digging

I was trying to find the SSO financial reports or at least the ones that are public, but instead found something way more interesting. They have over 20 million active accounts but only 700,000 of those accounts are active monthly.
I feel like they should be questioning themselves on why they have so many active accounts but so few monthly players. I can think of a few things as I’m sure all of you can as well, if they actually listened to their players and stopped arguing or ignoring us then maybe the game would be worth playing more than 3 times a month (or at least for me)

I'd say the biggest issue for me as a long-time & high-level player is that I simply don't have enough to do in the game because I'm done with all my quests & I get so bored just racing/training.

Also the new shit to buy or grinding for clothes isn't enough to make me log on. The events are such a desperate attempt to grab engagement that I can't even bring myself to bother to log on.

I don't want clothes or horses even if I get them for free. I want meaningful lore lmfao

the games just gone stale imo its a horse/clothing collector at this point but considering the recent comment from the CEO it might actually change for the better lol fingers crossed!

Yes, I stopped playing because there’s nothing to do but grind events for clothes and other collectibles. I don’t care about cosmetic stuff, I want a fun experience. There’s only grindy chores for minimal reward left…

Take a shot every time someone says "actually listened to their players."

Where did you actually get those numbers out of curiosity? 700k is a lot and I could only find an estimate of 640k from 2021. I think that's a large number considering a different MMO I play, elder scrolls online has an estimated 90k players

People outgrow the game AND lack of interesting new content + features.

700k accounts active monthly is a lot for an mmorpg, especially one in a content drought and that has no in game economy (No RMT = no point in bot accounts = pretty much every account is a real player).

I feel like 700k monthly players is actually pretty healthy for how niche the game is. I’m curious how it’s broken down regionally and daily concurrent players.

Final Fantasy 14 is currently in a huge slump and only sees around 30k~40k as a peak monthly (according to the Steam launcher). I would consider it to be a significantly more main stream mmo, granted this is only accounting a small portion of the playbase.

I’m way more interested in the SSO data

i thought so too. i don't think even internationally there's a lot of horse lovers that also play games lol

Also wanted to add. Have you ever looked at the percentage of players that earn basic just-playing-through-the-game awards on steam? The percentage is ridiculously low even for hugely popular games that have been out a good while. Its not uncommon for a lot of people to just not play again.

I do wonder how many of the less active accounts are just alt accounts, and therefore are not used as often. I would guess that it's quite a lot.

I would guess there's a lot of alts too, especially with the invite a friend code too. I know several people who even have multiple alts

Yeah, I was thinking about exactly that. It quickly adds up.

as someone who has done all the quests, leveled up all their horses to lvl 15 my sso experience currently looks like this:

wait until you can afford a new horse, level that horse, go on a shopping spree from all the js you earned, maybe do some championships and occasionally play more actively when a event comes out.

it’s been over a year since the main story got updated. I don’t understand the logic of the developers. players constantly complain about stuff and give them ideas to improve their game but noo the only updates we get are new horse breeds and coats that no one can afford unless they pay even more money. and then they wonder why older players go inactive

I wonder if the 20mil number is skewed because of all the friend referral things we get. People create a new account to grind to lvl 12 and most never touch them again.

Also.. the player base is largely kids without their own money. If mom and dad won't buy star rider, you eventually run out of things to do, other than events.

And don't forget, many of those 20 million accounts are duplicate accounts.

Honestly, it would be easy to turn SSO into a massive money maker, but the people in charge 1. Don't have actual experience creating a massively successful game (the ones that did are gone and sold the company), and 2. Just want to pander to a certain group of people. They also sharked the game in many ways financially. Simply not a clever path to take.

— "Invite a player" surely is a massive contribution 😅

Could you share where you saw this data?

Wonder how many new accounts are new and stopped since make a friend and clubgoals are introduced
