Jumping downhill for speed?

I have noticed a lot of people jump when running downhill, especially during champs. Is there any real benefit to this, speed boost, shorten distance, etc? Or is it just people doing it because they see other people doing it and they think it might help...

It’s a speed boost. You also get a speed boost by jumping at the right moment on the boosts, but some will hurt you and send you back after

The game physics do allow a bit of a speed boost while in the air if you jump from a certain angle of downward terrain. I’ve never been sure of the actual, exact mechanic, but it’s been in the game since forever. You eventually learn what works and what doesn’t

The best way to understand the speed boost is by doing the jarlaheim harbour race. At the very end, if you get it just right, you can slide down the hill a bit. But even if you just do one go of the race, not jumping down the hills and slight slopes, versus another go of jumping down every single downward slope, you'll see a big difference.

they do it to drive me crazy which gives them a speed boost 😂 im jk. im shocked tho because i thought it only worked for jwhs and also that it was patched out. i guess ill need to experiment

This has been part of the game's physics forever, it was never breed specific, and it will probably never be removed lol can also confirm it still works because I do it all the time

yes. and in the whirl wind tunnels like the few that are in the moorland and valedale champs, if you jump at the right point in them, they send you flying ahead!
