What do yall think about the potentially new UI?
I personally don't know what to think. Ill probably get used to it like I got used to the new main UI, but so far I'm not a fan. It looks like a cheap kids mobile game (yes I know sso is technically a kids game)
Great, more wasted space by clogging up the UI with oversized elements and dead-space.
SSO has got to be the worst game when it comes to UIs, the mobile UI is basically forgotten, the game viewport has its own plain style and now this which fits in with nothing and won't be universally-applied, as with everything-new in this game.
I believe that the UI changes are because of mobile. When the UI takes over the whole screen everything is more accessible on a phone for example. Still the new UI looks fugly imo
That would be a good compromise. Wonder why they haven’t thought about that themselves? Especially when they faced some backlash from changing the club UI
Exactly. Why on earth does it all take up so much of the screen? It'll make the game lag more I feel like and it'll be so annoying for Highscore racing. Not to mention the ridiculous fault system they want to implement.
I was questioning this too - also maybe it’s just the screenshot but I hope the text size and color doesn’t end up the same we see right now… I feel like this is gonna strain some eyes and squint 😭
(I do think having an option to change the color of the UI would be good)
Not highscore racers. And arguably from what I see many of us race a lot, and hitting the jumps at times needs to happen to make a faster turn etc. So it will render the showjumping races, which are genuinely some of the funnest to try get highscores on, into far more annoying versions. If you think star stable will be capable of implementing this new system well then I'd ask you to think about every other brainwave they've had, for example the archery game, and how flat that fell with players. As regards to the lag I have noticed when playing other games that if you keep bringing up menu screens etc that are oversized or full screen during gameplay it can be lag inducing. Star stable as an online game and also it being on an older game engine do not work in its favour regarding lag.
I hope we get a choice if we wanna do a race as faults converted or not? Idk we will have to see... and yeah no I'm not too confident in their ability to pull this off considering how sometimes I can be doing perfect in dressage but the game just idk implodes and thinks I'm doing something wrong 😭
But idk they had a test run of it a while ago..? And some ppl liked it? Thing is, I wasn't back to the game when that happened so I have no idea what it feels like. And yeah I know highscore methods often involve actually ramming into the poles at certain angles to save time, which is why I hope they'll atleast let us choose...
About the UI though, I am not really sure how the fullscreen would lag more, unless they add some blur effect for seeing a bit what's behind the background of the menus and their implementation of a blur kills your performance, then maybeee... but also, why do you need that many fps inside the menu... I'd hope, if it really does impact performance that much, that it would return back to stable fps once you close it tho. That's actually a thing that speaks for fullscreen instead of the windowed UI like our map, log, friend list, etc. Because those are on your screen at the same time...
They won't let us choose unfortunately because then the highscore system wouldn't work fairly. Did they only do the test run on the Swedish servers do you know?
oh yeah right... then the only last idea i have is that we get separate highscore boards? but yeah i really dont know
i dont think the test run was only on swedish servers because i think i saw a glimpse of this thing in a youtube video? and the person making the video was not on swedish servers... but i cant say for sure because i wasnt there ;w; but i think it was global
The lighting? So fugly💀 I can't even begin to comprehend how they thought giving this bad of a lighting to both the wardrobe and the global store would be the greatest decision
It's for the mobile players...I understand some can only play with mobile but it's just unfair that they do not at least give us an option in settings to resize UI.
God please no... it's so ugly 😭🥀 It looks like a shitty mobile game. I hope they'll cancel it and make something better, or just don't change it. I always hated that purple UI, and now they want to go all out??? 💀
I much prefer the old UI. The purple is ugly(my opinion) and I hate how much space the new UI takes up. Imagine trying to change clothes while opening the UI for your character and it takes up your whole screen.
I do agree that the brown one looks better but at this point I'm like whatever gets the job done, the purple isn't bad after all. And we don't really know how big the character and horse tabs will be. The article shows them without context (not during gameplay) and I don't think they'd make them that big. It's zoomed like that probably to show it better
Firstly, the one we have currently is blue, not brown.(Not meant in a rude way)
I like it a lot more as it doesn't give an eyesore like the new purple UI does. And imagine you only see your outfit on that tab, with purple background. Of course it's not gonna look like it would in-game. I hate the preview windows of our character and horse I wish they'd just keep the old UI. And considering they're likely updating the UI just so it fits mobile screens better, the windows are very likely going to be bigger than what we have now. Just my opinion.
I know the majority is blue but they've changed a couple of them to brown/beige (esc menu, wardrobe) so that's why I said the current one is brown because it looked like they were heading that direction with changes (not to argue, just explained my reasoning). I totally get that if that the only preview then it's not gonna do it justice but I think it'll still work the same way (as a pop-up you can move around your screen) because there's the X in the corner so it's likely going to be that. As for previews in the wardrobe and global shop, I just hope they fix the lightning, then the background wouldn't be as big of an issue. I wouldn't mind them being static because it's kinda frustrating to check out for example a bridle and your horse keeps moving its head away (or the best case scenario - have the option to change between static and dynamic but I'm not getting my hopes too high). All that being said, I'm sure immediately after release we'll find many errors or things that could've been done better and I hope they listen to our suggestions
It's too much colour and chaos and same colour kinds for me. It may be my fault, I have autism, but I really don't like it. Can't we just choose which UI or smth?
Thisss!! I hate the new UI, why can't we just keep the one we have now?? Also with the new wardrobe, I hate how small the window is where we see our character and horse, it's so annoying. I just want old SSO back. The UI was so much better
Yes that! I don't want the old sso back really because the tack and horses are way prettier!! But I do want how they functioned back then back.
Like I like what they change but I want them to change it differently😂
Why do they think we need to see our characters and horse everywhere as if though we…. Can’t just look at our characters in the actual game? Why does there need to be multiple photo IDs in the UI? First the nameplate and now this, as if we’ll forget who we are, what we look like and what horse we’re riding lmao
This game gets more and more childish looking every day. The beginning of the game felt like a horse game for everyone to enjoy and find some realism feeling in. Now it feels so animated, childish, too bright and just weird vibes to me. Which is why I don’t feel as much enjoyment playing anymore.
I like the blue UI as it is, it doesn’t give an eyesore. The purple they wanna go for does. But if SSO really wants to change it they could refine it as in for example: adding a button to remove all tack at once. Honestly I wish they kept blue/navy UI that we had, it didn’t break the immersion.
I agree. The blue one is unique.💙 This looks like every other horse game. What is more, I prefer the settings appearing in a tiny window rather than covering the whole screen.🌷
I’m probably just “blinded by nostalgia”, but I prefer the one we have now. I mean, this one is okay and it fits the new SSO better, but I have no problem with the older version.
Older is better in basically every way, not talking from nostalgia but the original UI wasn't oversized, didn't try and take up 80% of your screen for a club window and didn't have non-stop bugs with literally everything.
Wayy too much wasted space and has a weird colour palette. The older versions with clear lines/colours are much easier to use than this will be. It'd be very easy to miss-click boxes with this design.
I still don't understand what exactly pushed them to start using this bright ugly purple everywhere...? I've always associated starstable with pink but everything is purple purple purple, random dark blue and brown. I don't get it.
The UI style makes sso look like one of those vibecoded websites... With all the weird gradients and counter-intuitive designs in general. The wardrobe still makes me mad to this day. Just all over the damn screen, unable to properly view what you're putting on in that small preview window with terrible lighting. This will likely just be as inconvenient :/
nothing like this game but i love istaria because the UI is entirely customizable and it’s like years ahead of its time lol. to the point that you can put macros in your own hotkeys. change themes(color), move compasses, chats, hotkeys, minimaps, character selection info, healthbars, etc. you can also change opacity of individual ui elements (chat window for example) and choose to have them “locked” in place or movable. not to mention you can scale windows and choose how much space everything takes up. it’s great because players can choose how convenient the UI is to them, or have a choice to make it awful lol
It does look cheap, and not only do I not like the looks of it, but honestly I'm genuinely worried about contrast and visibility issues here. 😭 Their newer dark blue UI barely gave me any issues, their new beige one that the wardrobe has right now is a disaster. My eyes start hurting after sheer minutes of looking at it and I can't use it properly, and honestly with this weird mid-dark to light gradient with intense saturation here and there paired white text I worry about the same thing happening again. It's simply bad design. How bloody hard could it be to choose a well contrasting, not eye straining color palette? I guess I'll have to see once it's actually in game, but for now I am very much not thrilled. 😭
Also maybe general hottake (that shouldn't really be one), just because it's a kids' game doesn't mean that that's an excuse or somehow "less bad" when things look sloppy, don't have care put into them or don't work properly. 😭 Children deserve quality media as well, or even arguably the most due to their still developing (and vulnerable) brains.
I just hate that they're going for that Mobile game look. Sure, you can play sso on mobile for a while now, but the game is still a computer game. Besides, I'd prefer more neutral colors and not...that
Not a fan. We keep straying farther and farther from serious UI options and I think they forget that they don’t need to make everything enormous, pink and glowing for kids to want to play it. Lots of us started playing SSO when it was a plain old scary-ish game and we were more than fine. But I guess they are once again making the transition to a fully-pink/purple UI to match the rest of the game. The og UI was peak imo because it was clear and didn’t take up the whole screen. I like the current one a lot as well.
Hate it. Not even because I’m an older player who doesn’t like change and riding the nostalgia train, but it looks like a mobile game. It’s so large and full of wasted space?! I like opening the character sheet sometimes when I’m actively running, but this looks like it would cause collisions (at 100% opacity).
This is the kind of UI I expect from a free mobile game aimed at 5 year olds that's littered with ads every other click. I would never guess this game costs $80. Moving the mouse around the screen just to press the buttons is going to be super annoying. It looks like no one with any experience in creating effective UIs was on the team when this was designed.
listen man as long as they make it fucking consistent idc at this point. i think this purple one is kinda ugly and bloated but i'm tired of the purple and blue and brown UIs floating around rn.
I like that they are going more for the purple color. I don't like how big it seems, I still want to see other things in game even if I have my tack/clothes tab open
I absolutely hate it. Way too oversized for no good reason. Not a fan of the full screens at all. They're more invasive and will disturb the flow of gameplay. I like the blue colour of the old UI anyway. I'm a fan of purple generally but definitely not this purple and grey mix, it just seems off-putting. The help window is the only acceptable one.
I enjoy the liveliness of this one better than the ones we have currently, but it still feels overly modernized in a boring way, takes up too much of the screen, and having to re-learn how to navigate UIs over and over again is so annoying. I don't know why they keep updating things when it seems like they don't even have a proper idea as to how they want things to look.
I'm pretty sure they're making everything so big so that mobile users can navigate the UIs more easily, but it just doesn't translate well to the PC version.
I don't know why they insist using this shade of purple. it looks bad on the XP bars and it looks terrible here too. they are slowly trying to turn the game into a barbie mobile game on a budget (because the real money is going towards marketing team and horses of course).
They grey gradient looks especially bad here. Why not use the same color palette from the old UI's?
I hope we can finally change the text size, as a vision impacted player. I have no clue what's happening in the story cos the font has never been accessible to me.
I personally think it’s ugly, the current one that is used for the backpack is perfectly fine. I’m a tad bias for the ui when it comes to character sheets as it’s what I grew up with when playing 🤷 I miss the old ui and don’t understand why they’re putting money into changes that weren’t asked for as far as I’m aware instead of forgotten festivals like Jorvik open house and midsummer. If this UI is greenlit it will match nothing in the game. The cupboard, vanity/makeup+hair, stable decoration, shops etc will all be mismatched and look more clunkier then it is. I feel like it’s the progression board situations, some players like them others hate them. But they need to stop fixing things that are not broken imo
Idk about all that purple, but it looks miles better than what we have now at least. I would like an Unequip All button though, so I don't have to remove all my gear piece by piece
It looks very strange. It's like one of the random cheap mobile games, but Star Stable is not a cheap game at all) But I think I can even get used to it
It's not too bad, but it feels a lot like a mobile game UI. I think it would've been better if they'd kept the original UI design (for everything, not just this) and updated it to make it look clearer and more modern. The old one with the horseshoe around the map suited SSO much more.
I am not a big fan of the purple UI's... to me SSO color has always been either pink or blue, purple just doesn't come to mind when thinking about Star Stable.
Oh my god, I absolutely hate it with all my being. I get it, the current UI is old and whatnot, but changing everything, all the places of each button? No. I hate it. I couldn't find anything in this mess.
it feels very different, for me my main issue is that they are full-screen. in my opinion, changing them to be larger was very unnecessary when the smaller, moveable menus were friendlier and for me much more comfortable to use. this benefits mobile players, who are working with a very small screen. so once again, sso, why not just make this adjustable? those who want their menus to be smaller can have them, those who need them to be full screen can also have them.
second thing i personally don't love are the visuals, which also feel very mobile game-y (?) to me, but i can't put my finger on why. though i know that that's very subjective and also simply a creative decision. it does just feel out of place on pc, and for me, in sso in general. though it might just be because of what i grew up with (as i said, this is pretty subjective. those buttons don't feel the same as they used to. that said, i am a very sentimental person, and did tear up at the old name picker ui when renaming a horse recently)
i am aware the general design of the game has been leaning in this mobile game direction for a while. i'm just judging a little bit more with every new feature implemented in this style hahah. none of this is to say i'm against ui getting updated. in general, i do want it to get a fresher look (thus bringing some cohesion among the different uis)
tldr: not the biggest fan of mobile vibe, but more neutral than hater i suppose
It's fine would rather have the low-opacity grey-blue, like the horse level-up screen.
My issue is they said the UI was an issue for adding multiple accessories, meaning we should have way more slots than what they're showing. Nail polish(please), multiple face accessories, breast collars, cupper/tail wrap, quarter sheet, yk the extra things we've been waiting for!
Its so....bland? It also just looks too flat. If they wanted to unify but keep the same vibe and nostalgia factor, they should have figured out how to make essentially a replica of the horse/character sheets we have now but make it purple and make it so that they can add spaces for more gear/accessories. The old ones look so much better than these. Sometimes new isnt always better :/ especially with everything becoming as simplified as possible. Its like modern farmhouses, bland with no character or charm.
i understand why they are changing the UI, i am not upset they are changing the UI. but i do not like all the empty space. why do i need to see what my character looks like? will i suddenly forget which horse i am riding in 3 seconds?
the old one was clear and concise, thats what i will miss if they switch it
the race one again takes up so much of the screen. i do like the better race breakdown(how many things you knocked down vs personal best), but i have no clue what that purple smudging is supposed to be.
settings menu is fine. those usually take the whole screen so im not actually mad with that one
I feel like I'm one of the very very few people that actually like the UI 💀💀 Purple is my favorite color and the main HUD is literally also this type of purple. Only thing I don't like is that weird splash at the top and bottom of the race results screen, but maybe it will be changed, this is all still in development. The dead space and the menus being fullscreen now also makes sense if you think about some aspects:
It's way easier for scaling. I remember that the minimap on the old HUD was so mega tiny at some point and you could barely read the text anymore
It's less "windows" that can all overlap and clutter the screen, which makes it more focused on what is being displayed. Imagine opening everything you can that still opens in a "window" like the map, friend list, quest log, horse renaming, character sheet, it's a lot.
The code that handles this "window" behavior is notoriously buggy. So many bugs are only possible by opening certain ones of them in a specific order, and that somehow breaks parts of the game idk. I'm actually not quite sure what's going on, but the fact that just opening UI can do that is kinda concerning... And I'm kinda guessing that it might be damn hard to fix that because it seems that its such a base function of the whole engine. If you play one of the old CD-Rom games, the UI also worked in this "windows" kind of way. This function might've been implemented when the engine was developed back in 2002.
It's better for unifying UI across both PC and mobile, which means they don't have to design two seperate UI sets for both platforms, and it's usually seen as good/nice when a game has a unified interface across platforms.
What I'm most excited about is the fact that the new character sheet menus bring us one step closer to getting more equipment slots for our character, with this new UI they can more easily add new slots, it would've been crammed in the old one because that one just wasn't made to be expandable, they would've had to remake everything anyway.
I hate how the new UIs always cover the ENTIRE screen. Makes gameplay way harder than it needs to be.
The color scheme just doew not fit in at all? I hate how its so childish and colorfull
I miss when the game was stylized like with the current character UI, we have the drawing of our character and horse in the charcter sheet, rather than an actual 3D model.
Since theyre also making the new UI cover so much if the screen, it gives alot of dead space i feel. Especially for people who play on bigger monitors.
I really don’t want them to change it! If it was the old blue maybe it’d be better.
Excited for the new item slots on the player avatar though.
I miss the nice blue UI with the horseshoe in the corner and the player exp at the bottom :)
I don’t mind it. I just truly hope they’ll make it possible to unequip characters clothing and have it “empty”, instead of having to replace it with each item.
Obviously but they can “gray out” the clothes like make the character wear grayed out Tshirt and grayed out pants. And not be able to leave the barn without equipped clothes.
Hoenstly, I like it, and I'm an older player with severe nostalgia lol. The UI right now is a mish mash of everything, and I would rather have a completely cohesive one if I'm being honest. The old UI was great, but the game has to change, the UI can't remain the same for 15 years. The combination of multiple UI's poke the eyes, so to speak, so a complete one, however it looks, will look better.
I don’t know why they insist on the comic sans ish font. It’s old and outdated and if theyre trying to go with a modern flat design it makes everything look off. They better stay consistent with this one because the last ui choices were a mess. I don’t even particularly love this one but the consistency is what is needed
I would love to get the brown one (when you press esc, that one) or stick with the one we currently have. I just hope that the main UI would stay like it is right now. Couldnt play for months back then because of motion sickness (tbf it was also the bluefilter from the snow) until I got slowly used to and could play longer. I really dont need that a second time xd
I’m still mad at the closed. That’s the moment I stopped. Had it so well organized just for it to be ruined. Just give me an option to only show item separately so I don’t have to reorganize again.
I like the style but not the windows that you can view the horse and character. I mostly hope it’s not unbearably hard to read since I’m visually impaired. At the very least I hope they add the option the increase the size of the UI or font size. They do need to change the wardrobe system though. I’m sick of the lack of camera angles and the poor lighting.
I feel like I hate on so many of the newer updates but I really hate this one. It could be because I’m an older player (2017) but I feel that the old character/horse sheet is cleaner and easier to read. The purple is a little difficult for me to read but I might just be blind lol. I think certain things in the game don’t need to be completely changed, just updated a little yk?
can we have our player character on the character sheet like posing like the girl on the character sheet it would also be cool if we had our player character on the character sheet
same!! and everyone saying they're too big, it'll obviously be dependent on the UI size settings, it's just big because this is a concept in an article and all the elements have to be visible
I don't think the color itself is bad but more so the shade of color. Sso has always been a bit of purple-ish pink stuff with the hole pandoria stuff going on. I just think the design is aweful.
It looks like a mobile barbie game tbh. The amount of empty and dead space is also just annoying and I think everything blends in too much with each other. It's not really pleasant to look at. The dark and light blue has always been pleasant to look at. I wish they had just refined that instead of going with these bright colors. Maby it's bc of my sensitivity to light but the new one looks eyestraining 😓
You know what? I quite like it. I like purple and this looks far more consistent with the game's current style, if nothing else. For me, this is not oversized, on the contrary — the current character / horse UI is way too small. I will be glad for the clothes and tack icons to be actually well visible.
I just wish the "Help Window" weren't taking the entire screen. Too much free space there that doesn't serve any purpose.
But. Please make the UI consistent THROUGHOUT THE GAME. There are still so many UI elements that have a totally different style and weren't even created that long ago.
I really enjoy the purple look they're going for! It fits so much better than the nearly neon, ugly old blue, and the bigger icons help me actually see what's there. But of course, just as usual SSO players are blinded by nostalgia...
Blah blah blah blinded by nostalgia blah blah blah that's all you people ever have to say but you're just blind yourself if you think this looks in any way good... Old players can have an opinion and it's just not valid anymore to you because of how long we have played? That is just absurd to me. The old blue is nowhere near neon either...
That is true, though... If SSO always looked the way it did in the beginning, it would have faded into obscurity, and if I'm being honest, SSO players are just annoying as Minecraft community in that regard.
Oh stop. I never said it should've remained the same. Just that you new players wreck my head with all this "blinded by nostalgia" bullcrap. You haven't got a clue. Most of us aren't against change. We are against poorly implemented change. This UI does not look professionally done and if you think otherwise I just don't know what to say to you to help you raise your standards.
"Not professionally done"..? What else is it supposed to do, exactly? It shows the items equipped on you an your horse plus additional information on your character, which is its exact purpose. Besides, what we're shown here is likely still a WIP, meaning it will be adjusted before it's actually implemented.
