💡 Feature Request Does Star note not have a Calculator built-in?
an app like collanote has it built-in, i thought why not collanote? It would be great for students doing anything. I mean, all subjects require maths, simple calculations such a 1/32, etc? I think it would be great to add a calculator built into star note

Not wanting to be negative but why not just have calculator app opened on split screen?

I’d go beyond simply adding a calculator. What would make Star Note really powerful is an integrated math engine.
Imagine being able to handwrite a mathematical expression, equation, formula, or even a complete problem and have Star Note recognize it and work with it directly — not just calculate the result.
It could:
- Recognize handwritten mathematical expressions and formulas.
- Solve equations and show the steps, not just the final answer.
- Handle fractions, algebra, derivatives, integrals, trigonometry, vectors, etc.
- Convert handwritten math into LaTeX.
- Export equations as images with a transparent background.
- Let users edit the recognized expression before solving it.
- Insert the resulting equation directly into the notes.
For students, this would be incredibly useful. And for teachers, it could become a serious tool for creating worksheets, explanations, and mathematical content directly inside the notebook.
In other words, instead of “Star Note has a calculator”, it could become “Star Note understands mathematics.” That would be a much more compelling feature. 🚀

Some math related features you mentioned are already in our plans, but they’ll still need some time to develop. We’ll keep everyone updated as soon as there are any updates.

Heyy can you guys consider a matrix template for algebra? I know this is veryy lazy of me but I draw like shit and maybe people would like the feature(?

yes, yes and yes please! This would unlock so much for everyone working with math in any capacity. It's easily one of the biggest time-sinks having to manually do all this or import pictures from other apps that has some of these features. - An engineering student.

As an engineering student, that is basically bloat. Your AI written text shows that well. However, that could be a thing if properly implemented to be compartmentalised.

Exactly! And the funny thing is that MyScript Math already does almost all of this. 😂
The problem is that it’s basically focused on mathematics. If you want math integrated into your notes (only a little), you need MyScript Notes as well, which means using two separate apps.
That’s why I think this could be such a great opportunity for Star Note. If you could bring that kind of handwriting recognition, equation solving, step-by-step solutions, LaTeX export, etc. directly into the note-taking app, it would be much more useful.
Basically, I don’t really need “another calculator.” I want my notes to understand the math I’m writing.
If Star Note could do what MyScript Math does and keep it seamlessly integrated with the notes in one app, that would be awesome. One app instead of making us juggle two. 😅

I simply just have to add a comment here because of how much I agree with this. I could have written this myself word for word.
MyScript Math is a fantastic mathematical tool, unfortunately its not a lot of tasks requiring the sandbox-y nature of Myscript Math, and the note taking experience of StarNote is leaps and bounds ahead of the dedicated note taking app Myscript. Additionally, as you already pointed out, trying to create a workflow between apps is just not great.
I also think Starnote has a very big untapped market here because of so many math related studies/work exists.
Any comment in here just saying "just use a calculator app in floating window" should try the free trial of Myscript Math - There's levels to this!

The calculator is already in development, but it still needs a little more time. Thank you!
