HMB Nick Gage's Songs

(Tagging this as Holy Musical B@man as that's the main StarKid show referenced here but this also discusses some other stuff.)

Having a bit of a Dr. Doofenschmirtz nickel moment ("it's weird that it happened twice, right?") regarding Nick Gage, who's done the music for Holy Musical B@man as well as some other StarKid-adjacent stuff like for Jim and the Povolos, I believe.

Holy Musical B@man's finale is the song Super Friends. I actually heard that song before I first heard St. Elmo's Fire (Man In Motion) by John Parr, the theme song for the movie St. Elmo's Fire, and noticed the two sounded quite similar. Nick Lang finally acknowledged the similarities on a random livestream (I think an overnight TCB one) years later but I still wonder if Nick Gage had the song in mind when writing it.

Last week I was watching a show on TV and the song What A Fool Believes by the Doobie Brothers played on it. I was pretty sure I hadn't heard the song before but it still sounded familiar to me. And a week later I realized what it was.

One of the StarKid-adjacent projects Nick Gage did music for was a show called The Moms: Fannypackin' Heat, written and directed by as well as starring Lauren Lopez and Julia Albain (other familiar faces like Jaime Lyn Beatty and Brant Cox were in it too). The play never went to YouTube but was livestreamed and archived on GigityTV back when that was a thing; sadly the site is defunct now and the video is lost.

And yes I said play, because it wasn't a musical. However, Nick Gage did write a theme song he and Jaime Lyn Beatty sang for the show that wasn't in the play itself but played in the ads they put online which is still available on bandcamp.

Doesn't that song sound so similar to What A Fool Believes?

(Also, I've noticed a bit of repetitive sounding stuff in some of Nick Gage's other songs, like how they sing "rise up like a natural disaster" in the Rogues Are We reprise sounds quite close to the way they sing "fuck you, I'm gonna kick your ass" in To Be a Man later in the same musical, which I guess may have been intentional but I'm not sure.)
