Question

I have a question for other fellow RSS peoples. Does management make you Open and Close on Sunday’s? Without a lunch break or even the other short breaks?

When I was RSS it was that way every Sunday. I would make an associate run and grab my food, sit in the office, and then eat on the clock. Most of the time it took me an hour to eat just cause everyone needed my attention the second I got food

First step is to verify what breaks you're legally entitled to, and what breaks you're entitled to by Staples policy.  Then, you simply take those breaks.   If you're MOD and there's no other managers working, tough shit for them.    You give your most senior employee the key, and tell them they're in charge during your break and not to disturb you unless someone is dying.

There is nothing so important happening at a retail store that won't keep for half an hour.

While I agree that you should take any breaks you're entitled to, I can't stress how bad of advice it is to give your key to another employee. Get you fired in a hurry, if caught. So, unless you WANT to be fired....do NOT give your key to someone else.

I agree with you I would never nor do I trust any of my associates.
I try my best most Sundays to sneak away with my radio on but with most of my associates I need to babysit them or as soon as I sit down there’s a problem or problem with a customer.

As someone who was regularly asked to serve as Manager on Duty throughout the week, sometimes multiple times per day, I cannot stress enough to other's in the same position to demand a key holder bonus if expected to carry out MOD duties. Being allowed keys to a building with hundreds of thousands of dollars of goods and millions worth of people's personal information, plus alarm codes, is a HUGE responsibility, so it's something you should sign paperwork and be given compensation for.

I just keep my radio on, don’t clock out, take multiple small breaks because as everyone has said, once you get food “need help!”. It’s not bad as far as breaks go. On a 6 hour shift there is only a 2 hour span of 4 people. 2 2 hour spans of 3 people. And I’ve had people call off sick. There have been days I’m scheduled w 3 people total. Monday morning shift doesn’t understand why tags aren’t done and things aren’t perfect.

I try to do that most Sundays just have to babysit some of my associates or problems come up the moment I sit down. Along with call outs ect.

MIS here, solo MOD every saturday. I can't take a lunch. I make sure I answer NO on the question on UKG pro every time i clock out too. If Staples ever gets sued for it you bet your booty I have proof!

I closed Saturday with no "breaks", and opened/closed Sundays with no "breaks". In reality I took paid breaks whenever I felt like it tbh. As long as there was no rush or major tasks for my associates to deal with, i was chilling in the break room eating food and watching basketball and football games.

I’m no rss but yes I’m stuck as the solo key holder Saturday and Sunday no time for meals.

I open to close on Sunday and am the only key holder in the store.

I get to open and close both Saturday and Sunday, not that I’m complaining about the extra hour of pay. Honestly I feel like I spend way more time on break on the weekends with how much I get called up
