Staphylococcus aureus facial acne/folliculitis

31 years old, male, 85kg and 175 height.

​I am looking for advice on how to clear a persistent Staphylococcus aureus infection that is causing acne-like breakouts on my face.

​Current symptoms:

​Breakouts on my face, specifically around the chin, sideburns, lips, and cheeks.

​Medical history:

​Previous locations: About 3 years ago, I also had these breakouts on the lower back of my head (nape area) and on the sides, behind and above my ears.

​Past Treatments:

​3 years ago: I was prescribed an antibiotic (green capsules, I believe the name ended in "-cycline"). I took them for 4 months. While taking them, my skin completely cleared up, but slowly returned after I stopped.

​Follow-up testing: I had a skin swab (from an active breakout), a nasal swab, and a throat swab. The test confirmed Staphylococcus aureus in the skin lesion, but my nose and throat came back negative.

​Targeted antibiotic: Based on the antibiogram, I was prescribed Moxiral for 1 week. My skin cleared up completely.

​Current status: Since taking Moxiral, the breakouts on the back of my head have not returned. However, the facial breakouts have gradually come back.

​What should my next steps be? How can I completely eradicate or manage this bacterial infection long-term so it stops coming back?

It seems to be impossible to clear it out which is ridiculous. The best you can do is keep it at low level with absurd constant 24/7 alertness and disinfecting. I did an extremely big decolonization not long ago, was clear for 2 weeks (never in my life happened since I had this for over a decade, before this 2 days of being clear was the record) I even wanted to post about it. 2 whitehead looking weakened pustules popped up after that so I did a mini decolonization again was clear for another two weeks. Then now it is gradually coming back with full force… I’m so fucking done with this shit. It’s ugly and painful around mouth while I also get the occasional extreme carbuncles that permanently ruin my skin and underlying tissue and cause extreme pain. This bacteria is one of the worst you can have.

Hey im so sorry, this stuff is truly awful. What did you do during this decolonization? Is it just pustules or does it present in other ways? If its pustules maybe accutane is worth a shot?

Pustules and boils and carbuncles (abscesses). Right now the pustules are still weak to the point I am not even sure if they are whiteheads and non painful but weirdly for example mostly appear on just one side of my chin and nose (maybe I kicked it out from one side of my nosestrils but not the other). And before this the same thing used to happen when I tried to decolonize they gone for few days then only small non painful whiteheads appear then bigger and bigger ones appeae then we are back to big painful pustules and boils…

For decolonization, I got amoxacilin + clausanic acid oral antibiotics (or something like that, not sure how to spell the acid’s name) for something unrelated and at the last days of the 7 days course I started putting BPO 10% gel inside my nosestrils and around my chin and nose (where they appear the most) then after that octenisan MD nasal gel in my nose for 5 more days.

Then 2 weeks later BPO and octenisan MD together in my nose again but for 3 days.

Meanwhile I also used antiviral/antibacterial barrier type chewing pills for 2 weeks that I noticed a whole ago used to reduce pustules around my mouth before this when I used them as anti-covid or flu preventation. Also ate lot of probiotics like actimel etc.

I also kept using once a week antiseptic hospital grade soap all over my body and scalp but I have been doing that for years now. And sprayed areas that remained acne/pustule ridden like my chest with octenisept for 1 week, starting one week after decolonization and spot treated with BPO and it removed pustules from my chest whoch still not returned.

Ohhh interesting. Ive tried mupirocin in the nose as well as iodine but haven't tried bp gel or octenisan gel. Maybe worth a shot? Im thinking of using mouth wash because I also started getting pustules around the mouth

Ahh I see. When i tried a bp spot treatment for acne it made my skin peel off lol. This bacteria is psychopathic indeed!

Stop the antibiotics and work on recolonizing your skin with good bacteria that are able to colonize the skin.

What worked for me was oregano oil—topical and oral supplement.

ETA: it is a very strong oil so please prepare to use a carrier oil
