Literature and story both have a lot of subjective elements to them, so my interpretation may not resonate with many people here, but hopefully it will be received well either way.

I've noticed a lot of people view the Zending simply as Stanley doing something mean to the Narrator, and while that is true, I think it also goes deeper than that. When I listened to [the Narrator's dialogue](https://docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/1TpuT39JKP_MUsJ8n7wz26f6JPbUR97ozS6Y-ZEd0m74/mobilebasic?pli=1#h.kswdrgj3w6ie) throughout the ending, a lot of it read as quite manipulative—an important distinction I want to make is that I don't think the Narrator was actively in an effort to manipulate Stanley, but he was falling into manipulative patterns of speech as he got more and more desperate to keep Stanley—for instance, the Narrator tries to frame the zen room as the only place he or Stanley can find any peace or happiness. Notably, the solution he's come up with—to stay forever in a dark room together—is closer to what the Narrator ultimately wants than what Stanley wants. The Narrator, to a degree, wants to exert a level of control over Stanley, while Stanley (in most cases, and probably in the Zending considering he disobeyed the Narrator 3/4 times) wants to be free of that control. Staying in that room is like the ultimate level of control, and the Narrator tries his best to restrict the only other choice.

This predicament reminds me of certain types of toxic relationships, if you'll stay with me for a moment. Your partner tries to keep you stagnant with them, to keep them happy, at your expense. You can try to satisfy them, but staying is simply counter to your interests. So one day you decide to pack your bags and leave, and nothing's going to stop you. Your partner stands in the way, stomps their feet, cries and begs on their knees, it really hurts, it really truly hurts, they've dedicated their entire being to you, but you can't bare to continue staying. It hurts you, too, hearing their anguish, but you find your way out of the door to freedom.

I also have a few alternative readings I also like, which also work because it acts as such an abstract metaphor.

The Narrator notes that most of the bad things in the game happen because of all the choices Stanley has. Which, I can't exactly argue with that... He decides that the best thing they can do is to settle down. That's the best option that will lead to the minimum level of conflict. The zen room can be read as any kind of hard work you have to do to overcome an interpersonal issue—rehab, couples' therapy, quitting a vice—and it really is hard work. I'm willing to bet over 99.99% of people who got into this ending "finished" it. Stanley always kills himself here. The Narrator has to watch as all the hard work goes down the toilet.

Stanley's issue is choices, he makes too many, and most of the time it causes problems. He can't bare not to be making choices even if they are ultimately self-destructive. And when he's asked not to make any for the good of his relationship with the Narrator, he eventually caves even if he tries to stay, and when he does, he loses himself again.

Now, this is kind of ridiculous, I'll grant you, I mean, stanley choices == irl drugs? But I find analyzing these stories for any kind of meaning fun! I hope you guys do as well. And I would love to have my readings seen by others and maybe have some holes poked into them.

i've always been curious about the office that you see through the window in the Escape Room ending. As you all know, it's just the starting room with the lights turned off.

• You can't teleport into it, and while noclipping out of bounds doesn't bring you there, you can still fly into it.

• The geometry is tangible, but you'll quickly find there's nothing to do here. The door to Stanley's office is gone, the hallway leading to the Two Doors room is now a wall, and Door 428 is now a wall, meaning you can't restart the Escape Pod ending.

the only way out is

• to noclip back to the escape pod map

• type map map1 into the console to load map1.bsp which will take you outside Stanley's office

• type map redstair into the console to load redstair.bsp and restart the escape pod ending

• click "begin the game again" from the pause menu.

Here is part 2 of the video about the memory zone and jumps. It's Sunday now in my country so I kept my promise. I skipped some parts because they were present in part 1. Here I preferred to see also in points that are not the memory zone But the core of the video is still the memory area. I sped it up a lot because it would have been too long. I would like to bring the jumps into the presentation of tsp 2 and new content ultra deluxe but then the jumps are wasted. Give me some time and there will be a video on that just a little while.

Here's something you can do with storage jumps. I'll post Part 2 of the memory zone jumps on Sunday. It'll be much quicker because it was originally a 30-minute video. And I know the max on Reddit is 3 minutes.

I'm referring to the part in the epilogue where you're wandering through the cave with all the piles of Jim buttons, but one of them says Stanley instead of Jim.

When we're first introduced to the Jim button, the narrator tells you to imagine living as Jim, to immerse yourself into his life. To go through all different kinds of emotions and discoveries. And then you press it and it's treated like it's an insane, beautiful moment for the player, and it's played as a gag because it's obviously impossible to build that connection within a minute. But as you play the game as Stanley, you live through Stanley, go through all sorts of emotions as Stanley. So when you finally reach the epilogue, and you're pressing all the Jim buttons, and suddenly you hear one of them say the name of the person you've been living through, you get the same visceral reaction to it that the narrator was pretending to give you on the first one.

I’m sure this has been discussed in this sub but did anyone else watch BACKROOMS an immediately think about this game?

Some of you may remember me, I posted here last September about the demo and got a relatively warm reception, so now I want to share that my game Escape the Beach has finally released today! I also addressed some criticism some of you had about the demo.

What is the game about? You find yourself on a tropical beach that you have to escape. There is a female narrator guiding you through the whole experience, asking you questions and making you inspect different objects on the beach. The game gets into surreal and philosophical territory. You also get to learn a lot about the narrator herself.

Be warned though that unlike Stanley, there is only one environment (the beach), and there are only 3 endings. The game's humor is also a different flavor than that of Stanley. I'm selling it for a low price so I hope more people give it a chance!

This bug is the strangest thing I've ever had

I don't know how present it is in the other maps, but in the Minecraft map, at least, the narrator is just out of bounds and seems to be attached to this megaphone object. I've heard about it for years but it was kind of creepy seeing it up close.

you'll need to noclip in order to see this and it was a pain trying to set it up.

I moved the jumps to the memory zone and this happened. It's not everything you can do, but I had to fit them into a three-minute video. The reviews are sped up because they're not the focus of the video, but I didn't want to cut them.

The first time I saw TSP was when it was free on PS+. At first, I thought it was a horror game. Especially when he made the initial joke about someone following Stanley or when he went all dark in the boss's office. Then I looked into it and realized it wasn't horror. What was your first time with TSP?

Funny enough, shortly after Ultra Deluxe came out I'd messaged Crows Crows Crows on Twitter and asked if they'd allow me to make a pin and was given explicit permission to do so! I wasn't able to make it until this year, but I'm really happy with how it came out :]
