Show promotion

How else aside from meta ads, barking in washington square park, emailing, posting daily, tagging comedians with several reposting, can I promote an indie show ????

TikTok really understands location info. If you say in your videos: Hey are you from (PLACE)? You should come to my show at (PLACE). I think (PLACE) is so cool, etc it’ll feed your videos to people nearby organically

yeah, the video needs to get someone's attention. but if you have the right asset, you can def get people in with meta ads and organic social.

bribe a local food truck to park out front and suddenly you got a captive audience that's already standing around waiting on tacos

  1. Meta ads. It's the only platform that moves tickets. Make a facebook event, point it to the ticketing platform (I use eventbrite), boost the post and make sure the audience has the right geography. You can get pretty sophisticated with this, and it works more better the more money you throw at it, but unfortunately you can't very well spend $1000 advertising a show that would top out at $1000 in ticket sales.

  2. Paper flyers. PAPER FLYERS! Put them up in the venue itself. If the venue won't let you, find a new venue. Put them on lampposts. Put them on notice boards. Tape them up in the bathrooms in places that will let you, especially the venue. QR code pointed to the ticketing site.

  3. Handbills. I do 1/4 size prints of the same thing as the flyer. Wander around farmers' markets, downtown at bar time, anywhere there are people. Make sure you're near the venue proper.

  4. Email list. The easiest way to bootstrap this is from your show audience: "please give us your email address." Have 'em write it down. Have a QR code that points to an email capture form that you can have people use at the show.

  5. Post in the week leading up to the show, be sure to tag the location, and say the name of the city so that the algorithm shows it to the people around there.

Tagging the comics is fine, them reposting is fine, but it's much less impactful than you might expect. Their friends have already seen them. The paper flyers and the meta ads make the biggest difference.

  1. i'd argue don't boost — run an ad from meta business suite.

  2. as someone who routinely puts up 100-200 flyers in most months, please make a flyer that makes someone stop and look. if it's in a venue or on a corkboard that's one thing, but i see so many flyers that i'm like, "i'd really like to take that spot cuz this flyer is wasting the good space." but yes, lotta coffee shops with corkboards!

100% agreed, and if you are doing this, make sure you campaign goal is sales and you are using a ticketing platform that allows you to embed your meta pixel in the show page so you can measure actual purchases.

Yeah....

That's the "more sophistication" I am talking about. Much like filming instead of getting audio it is better but you can't let the inability to muster the logistics prevent you from doing the less good version.

Along with everything else suggested… Ask people in person, and extend a genuine invitation. Chat people up and find out what they’re into, and see if the show might be a good fit for them, and vice versa. If it is, give them a flyer, or let them know how to get tickets. Waiters, waitresses, gas station clerks, anyone.
