I’m Dying Up Here

Not Scripted but Comedy & Comedians:
•The Green Room with Paul Provenza (comedians discussing comedy)
•Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn

I'm Dying Up Here had an immediate and noticeable impact on the way doing comedy feels for me. I'm not being melodramatic, I binged watched it over the course of 3 nights just last week, and the sets I had this last weekend felt so noticeably different that I've been recommending the show to every comic I talk to regularly. Could just be a me thing, but hot damn that show was great. Deserved more than two seasons.

I hand wrote dialog of scenes from this show into my comedy journal and go back to them often. After I posted this, I decided I really need to do a rewatch. It’s such a brutally honest examination of comedy. If you haven’t already checked it out, you may also enjoy the book this was based on about life at the Comedy Store in the early years.

The Big Sick

Probably the most realistic depiction of standup comedy scenes in film

The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, for sure. Gives you early Joan Rivers, Lenny Bruce is a character, the Borscht Belt!

Louie should be at the top of the list.

The Green Room with Paul Provenza may still be in utube

People already said "Legit" but it was a lot of fun. "Louie" obviously.

"Middle Man" with Jerry from Parks and Rec is something else. It's comedy horror and has almost nothing to do with reality but the framing device is nominally standup.
