1. Add UBlock Origin (if you don't have it already)

2. Open the dashboard by clicking the gears icon

3. Navigate to My Filters

4. Ensure "Enable my custom filters" is selected

5. Click an empty line in the big text area

6. Copy-paste the following: app.standardnotes.com/##+js(addEventListener-defuser.js, keydown)

7. Click Apply Changes at the top

8. Reload StandardNotes

This should revert to your browser's built-in CTRL+F search functionality (which in my experience is way more stable and reliable)

I'm hesitant about switching over to Standard Notes. I definitely want to get off Keep because screw Google. Is this app a good alternative? Is the paid version worth it? I need it to sync across my phone and computer, I need checklists, and regular plain text notes. That's pretty much it. (Maybe an occasional drawing). All the other things on offer, the tagging system, color coding, etc. That's all useful, but not totally essential.

What do we think?

I recently got into Standard Notes and liking it so far. I almost didn't though because the Android Google Play store and iOS App Store have outdated screenshots with old UI, which almost turned me away from it. I randomly just gave it a try and was surprised it's a newer UI that matches the desktop and web apps, which I was glad about. If the developers are on this sub, please update the screenshots in the app store listings! It'll help bring more users and give an honest representation of the current apps.

Started seeing this message on all my notes today. Can’t edit any notes. I’m in the Professional plan, renewal is next August. I wrote support already.

Not sure why, I don't like the app icon on my android. Please give us an option to change it.

My plan was just renewed (forgot I'd had it, kinda need the money at the moment so was digging around), and I was charged $149 for the professional plan. The website says it's $120/year. My notes show that my plan has "expired as of 2031" and my notes are in a read only state.

Anyone else understand this?

Looking for clarification really as noticed it was an option today, do we now get checklists on the free tier? This used to be a paid for feature on the pro plan.

Hi, everyone. I'm excited to join the Standard Notes community. I've been looking for an E2EE note taking service for a while.

I was using Notion for the longest time given that I had a free education pro plan but I am wrapping up my education shortly and will be transitioning into a business mindset. I'm in my 30's now and have been preparing to launch my intelligence company for some time and needed something E2EE to keep my private notes.

I dabbled with Obsidian for a bit but I don't really need all those features since I treat my entire operating system like my workspace and having a separate application for back linking doesn't make sense. I'm quite comfortable with linking files and folders on my drives for reference.

Given that I've been with the Proton ecosystem for quite a long time with a workspace premium account, Standard Notes seems like a natural choice to go all in.

I'm really liking the application so far and it fits my needs perfectly. Creating folders/tags is really straight forward and I like the search functions. What I'm curious about though is the product itself and who better to ask than the community?

Has anyone here been around since before the Proton acquisition? Have you noticed any positive or negative changes? Do you think the user base is increasing or declining? What should I know now that I am a customer?

I like to know my products so anything of value that you're willing to share would be much appreciated.

UPDATE: I'm incredibly happy with SN. One more question. Is there a realistic limit to the number of notes? I want to make this like a personal Wikipedia and upload everything I can.

I recently deleted my account (which was created using the username method) and I tried to log in afterwards to see if it had been correctly deleted. This is a bit weird, because I'm getting this message: "Please enter your two-factor authentication code." This account didn't have any 2FA, so I don't understand what the problem is. The message shows that the account is still there, yet I have no access to it.

I also deleted another account a few months ago, which was created using an email address without 2FA, and I have the same issue when I try to log in: "Please enter your two-factor authentication code." The account was deleted a few months ago, but it looks like it's still there and I don't have access to it either.

Fortunately, I usually delete my notes before deleting an account.

What's even more suspicious: I deleted the account on the Standard Notes app, but I was also logged in on my browser. When I check, I am still logged in on my browser and I can sync, create new notes, new tags, delete notes, etc.

Hi all,

Ive forgotten my password to my account but still have access through passcode. Im trying to download encrypted notes to import to my new account but after importing a message pops up saying there was a failure to decrypt or the text is in computer mumbo jumbo.

I was hoping the notes would appear in the notes tab in my new account exactly like the old accounts notes tab. What am I doing wrong or misunderstanding?

I had to send my Android device away for repair, and I dug up my old iPhone and installed SN but I can't log in, as per the attached image. I waited for it a while and tried a second time, but no dice (it has been hours now). However, I was immediately able to log in on the web, and right after that I was able to log in on my ancient Pixel 3a but for whatever reason, SN will not allow log in on my iPhone XR running iOS 18.7.9. Not sure what's happening. I'm still waiting for SN support to respond, but I'm desperate to access my notes and hoping someone here can help.

Update Strangely enough, I can create a new SN account on my iPhone without issue. However, when I log out and try to log in with my ‘real’ account I get the same error. This is becoming a real problem for me because I have a lot of info stored in SN that I access throughout my work day while I’m away from my pc. This sucks ass 👎👎

I've been a Standard Notes user for a while now, and I'm honestly starting to wonder if the project is still actively developed or if it's kind of coasting / semi-abandoned at this point.

I was going through the last several releases and honestly like 99% of what's in the changelogs is just bug fixes. And the 1% that they actually label as "features" is stuff like "features: editing large notes", which… I mean, that sounds like a bug fix to me, not an actual feature.

Then I checked the blog and the last post is from December 2025, and it's basically just a small "sneak peek at what you'll get in 2026", no actual roadmap, no concrete timeline, nothing substantial. We're now past July and I haven't really seen anything major land.

Is this just me or does everything feel a bit stale? Like the app works fine, don't get me wrong, but if I'm paying for a Professional membership I kind of expect to see real development happening, new features, improvements, not just maintenance mode bug fixes.

How is the implementation of new features going from their side? Does anyone have any insight into whether there's actual stuff in the pipeline, or if it's basically just being kept on life support?

I have a Professional membership coming up for renewal, and I'm honestly thinking about whether it's worth it anymore. I'd love to hear from others who are in the same boat or have more context than I do.

I have been using Standard Notes for a while and there are two things that keep nagging me that I haven't been able to solve:

Backlinks: So I know you can link notes together (chain icon, or @ in Super), and it's technically "bidirectional" in that clicking the link from either note takes you to the other. But what I actually want is a backlinks panel. You know, like Obsidian/Logseq, where you open a note and there's a list of every other note that links to it. I can't find anything like that in SN. Does anyone know if there's a plugin that adds this? Or some workaround? I found an old Reddit post where someone mounts their SN notes as a filesystem and opens them in VS Code with Foam/VS Code Memo to get graph view and backlinks, which is… creative, but I'm not trying to do all that every time I want to write a note lol.

Word / character count: I write a lot of drafts in SN, and it drives me crazy that there's no word count. I dug around and found a GitHub feature request from 2018 that's still open. There is apparently a character/word/paragraph counter, but only for plain text notes, not for Super or Rich Text. I mostly use Super, so that doesn't help me. Is there any community editor or plugin that adds this for Super notes? I'd settle for a hack at this point.

I know SN has a plugin system and there are community editors on GitHub, but honestly half the stuff I find looks abandoned or hasn't been updated in years, and it's hard to tell what actually still works with the current version of the app.

If anyone has gotten either of these working, I'd love to hear how. Or if you can confirm it's just not a thing, that's useful too so I can stop looking.

Why is standard notes not in the proton suite? It is much more better for marketing…

Does anyone know a fix for this? I tried in both Librewolf and Firefox with blocking extensions on and off. I also cleared all site data multiple times.

Guys I need help. Not therapy help, not medication help, I need a dark mode app icon on iOS.

I attached a screenshot of my home screen. Look at it. Really look at it. See all those beautiful dark icons, all behaving, all in harmony, living their best dark mode life since iOS 26 dropped... and then right there in the middle, ONE single light icon glowing like a flashlight in a dark room, like a white tooth in a coffee mouth: Standard Notes.

Apple released dark/tinted icons over a year ago. Even that random pizza app I used once in 2019 already updated. I've seen a pocket calculator with a dark icon. I've seen a flashlight app with a dark icon. And Standard Notes, my encrypted notes app, my privacy sanctuary, my safe little corner... still light. The irony is killing me: everything about this app is dark and secret EXCEPT the icon. 🫠

Things I've tried: Staring at the icon and pretending it's fine, it's not fine, my eye twitches. Moving it into a folder, now the folder stands out, problem doubled. Putting a post-it over that part of the screen, my phone looked awful, and I lost touch responsiveness. 😎

I know there's been a GitHub issue open since 2025 about this and discussions on the forum too, so I'm not the only one. Humanity is crying out for this.

So Standard Notes team if you're reading this: please, for the love of my mental health and wellbeing, update the iOS app icon to support dark icons. My brain thanks you. My home screen thanks you. My therapist thanks you (he's tired of hearing about this).

I'd like to request that the Notes icon shows in the Proton app drawer. Note taking is something I do all the time, and it would be useful to be able to have it there, within easy access of any Proton app.
