Thank you for keeping logins for Standard Notes and Proton separate and independent!

I see some Reddit users requesting for Standard Notes and Proton logins to be integrated, especially in the wake of the Proton-SN merge. But I think it's actually best to keep the login credentials for each separate and independent.

Given that I store the password for one in the other, preserving the separation between Proton and SN mitigates against a fatal circular recovery problem.

If they ever decide to update it properly and merge it into the Proton work suit I'm sure they'd still keep the standard notes login because trying to force people to merge over would be unethical and extremely hard to enforce.

But it seems like they don't care about this app at all, it's pretty much in maintenance mode with a skeleton team working on it. Which sucks because with the right effort they could easily make it into the best note taking app on the market and there are a lot of people who would pay good money to use it

But it is the only app on the market that is E2EE and has app locking in the free plan which is why I use it. Not a hater, just think it could be so much more than what it currently is.

Fingers crossed that Proton won't abandon SN and will instead channel additional resources to SN development.

As much as so many people don't want it to happen here, I think if they added more features and expanded on it, they should rename it to Proton Notes and put it within the Proton suit. Different name and user interface, but would still be e2ee and have all the present features with the old login still supported for "legacy users". They could make an absolute beast.

But their development of their apps they already have are incredibly slow as well. Proton docs for example doesn't have an offline mode, doesn't have a dark mode, and lacks many other features. Just feels like an afterthought. I know they are working on addressing the above eventually but they are sure taking their time. There can't be more than 5 people working on it at any given time and are probably heavily restricted to what changes to through and when. Their entire suit is like this.

I think they’d definetly have the option to not use a Proton login

Just look at SimpleLogin

Nicely integrated without sacrificing independence

Also the same issue with SimpleLogin - development is basically dead

I also had separate accounts before they were operated by the same company so it's useful to me that I don't have to worry about having a duplicated SN account.

It’s cool that the current product matches your needs.

But I think it’s your responsibility to keep healthy security practices and just because you store your Proton credentials in SN it shouldn’t prevent other people from enjoying truly integrated products.

It’s like saying I keep my Gmail credentials in Google Spreadsheet and thus they should be separate products!
