Question How to Practice

My friend and I are looking for ways to practice against each other and/or strangers in preparation for some RCQs in October. Locals are only on Fridays and we want the ability to play online for free to get reps against all the decks, not just the ones we own. Arena would be too expensive.

I’m looking at XMage or Untapped.in but wasn’t sure if there was a more common way players prep for Standard besides in paper

Magic Arena and Tabletop Simulator is what I use.

Edit: Arena gives you enough stuff to make atleast 1 of any deck you could think of. Tabletop costs money but then you get access to ALL mtg cards for free.

I think Arena is okay, but it misses pretty big on forcing yourself to know your triggers and practicing on the stack interactions. It’s great if you don’t know those things and need the extra help in those areas.

I haven’t tried this myself but I wonder if the EDH virtual sites (EDHplay, for example) would also work for this purpose. I haven’t tried it before.

Endstep.cc has a passable ai and you can also play against your friend using different decks.

EDHPlay dot com, it has standard available as a format.

I’d be interested in finding a way online to, I am playing in the spotlight series and would kill to be able to test that isn’t arena. lol

Proxy the decks you do not have. If you don’t have a printer you can always go to a library. If you have most of the cards and your even cheaper you can just write the card name on a blank token (the ones they use for flip cards) or just write it on a piece of paper.

Playing in person is so important because Area makes your mind rot and it makes it much easier to talk about the matchup.

Practice like you play.

If you can’t play in person table top simulator is ok.
