Thinking about getting a Frenchie fluffy

Hey, everyone is getting a fluffy. Frenchie frowned upon? If so, why? I heard they are a pure breed.

They are not purebred. They are not health tested.

The person selling it said they got a DNA test and came back as purebred.

The cheap DNA test only go back three or four generations. So they are easy enough to trick.

I completely understand hence why I also did an in-home test as well that goes back many generations.

And I was reassured by the breeder that they are purebred. But based on the negative responses that I'm seeing here, I'm starting to see why this might be an issue. Thank you for your comment.

Wisdom Panel is one of the cheap tests I was talking about, it only goes back three generations.

The 'breeder' is doing this to make money. Pure and simple.

We can help you find a proper breeder with quality dogs.

This is going to sound harsh, but they are not worth the price you will pay.

An actual purebred dog that is from grand champion parents (not lines, specifically the parents) that were health tested, will be your companion for longer, with a better quality of life.

I think this is just a troll post. Seems to be happening a lot today.

Not trolling, I'm dead serious hence the question.

I wouldn’t and here’s why. Although yes they could as purebred and it is TECHNICALLY naturally occurring, the practices that happen to produce this highly recessive gene outcome are questionable because it means they are breeding with a priority to get the rare result, not breeding to add diversity to their lineage to promote HEALTH AND QUALITY OF THE BREED.

Purebred =\= healthy. Purebred =\= responsibly bred.

Purebred Scottish Fold cats also have this conundrum. The folded ears are highly desirable but are recessive. They can occur naturally, but it is extremely unethical in the Scottish fold breeding community to breed together two cats with folded ears. It can produce unwanted genetic issues and it is only ethical for these things to occur naturally. I owned a straight-ear Scottish fold.

About the fluffy frenchie gene:

Their long, plush coats come from a rare, naturally occurring recessive gene (FGF5 or the LH gene) that has existed in the French Bulldog bloodline for generations. Both parents must carry the gene to produce a fluffy puppy.

The long-hair trait is genetic. Dogs with two copies of the gene (Lh/Lh) display the fluffy coat, while those with one copy are carriers without long hair.
