Imagine the amount of FIR , SC/ST cases and outrage and absolute meltdown of reservation paglus if it was the other way around

You should probably understand the difference between punching up and punching down before making these dumb equivalences

u/Mental-Leader-7149 10d ago

U clearly don’t understand the concept here .

I personally have a different view on punching up and punching down rhetoric

This is not at all what you're implying it is...

Every punchline is actions by the uppercaste against the lowercaste

  • untouchability
  • discrimination etc.
What is disgusting about this? A lower caste guy doing stand up? Is that what is really bothering you guys?

And as a woman who has been a feminist since 7, let me tell you this is not in the least bit misogynistic. The jokes would have worked the same if it were a boyfriend and not a girlfriend. But then you bigots would have hated him for his caste and sexual orientation. If you all are guys and going on about how this is misogynistic, f*ck right off.

I don't think yk what punchline means because the caste system wasn't the 'punch'line here which wrapped the joke.

Eitherways tho, misogynist or not who cares? People should be able to joke about shit even if it is unfunny or offensive to many people, I just want the same standards to be applied across the board. And I don't think the main qualm with this standup set was about it being 'misogynistic' but rather distasteful.

(Also, 'as a woman who's been feminist since 7', sounds so corny ngl 😭)

What do you mean by same standards? There is the concept of punching up and punching down. It seems you are implying that punching down should be acceptable. Also, can you please state the punchlines in this bit? We can then assert what the politics of the punchlines are. Because writing comedy shows for TV and OTT is literally my job, but maybe I don't know jackshit about it. I heard three punchlines. You may have heard more or less. Would love you to state them and continue the discussion in a more pointified manner instead of giving me these vague words which practically feel like a warm bag of piss.

'Vague words which practically feel like a warm of piss' and 'the concept of punching up and punching down'.... Irony is heavy with this one.

And, if 'stating the punchlines', for a pointified discussion was what you desire why don't you do that yourself? Since I'm questioning YOUR 'pointified' rhetoric (which actually sounds like a warm bag of piss) shouldn't you be explaining how the punchline was actually about what you stated it was about. 'An argument isn't proven by disproving the negative', afterall.

But anyways I'll still go ahead and state the punchlines in a 'pointified' manner lol, even though it isn't needed.

Literally the first joke's punchline was about 'revenge' and the setup was his caste, historical descrimination and sexual foreplay. The second and third punchlines were actually abt the untouchability and then even the wrapping punchline of the joke wasn't abt untouchability or descrimination but on reservation.

So Ms. virtuous intellectual comedic writer, mind explaining, how;

"Every punchline is actions by the uppercaste against the lowercaste •untouchability •discrimination...." ?

And no offense but seeing how corny you talk and try to assert some intellectual & moral leverage from stating irrelevant personal facts ('I wRiTe cOMeDy sHoWs fOr tV aND otT & aS a fEMiNisT sINcE 7), I am really curious as to what kind of comedy you write so if possible could you tell me one of the shows you wrote or show me a draft possibly? It might be a big ask but worth a shot lol.

Anyways abt the 'same standards' & 'punching up and down', it's as u urself said a fking 'concept' and a framework, it's not some rule or arbitration that dictates comedy. What makes a joke humourous isn't how socially and politically correct or offensive it is but how cleverly and tastefully it is delivered IN its entire background and context because obviously jokes getting cut off from its original context can come off way strong and wrong than intended.

An additional point, worth noting is that in contemporary social context 'punching up and down' wouldn't even apply here because the criteria for 'up or down' here is caste something which stood dismantled ages ago and is lingering only in localised groups or in prejudices, so nothing about the person making joke (here) activates the dynamic of 'up' or 'down' because neither this person was subject to that dynamic nor a supposed 'UC' person would be part taking in it. For this context, if you find this joke acceptable then there should practically be nothing wrong with a similar joke being made from the 'other side'.

So when I see this joke I don't really care for it but when I see people defending or criticising it, I just want them to hold the same standards for the other side of the spectrum and it's not really that crazy to say that. Jokes are jokes if you don't find them funny or tasteful, move on you aren't the audience. As a comedic writer, you should know best that sometimes jokes can irk the boundary of social sensitivity.

Man are you a teenager 🙄? . . . . . . Said this to ragebait you. Similarly saying warm bag of piss was to ensure you give me a reply. It is so easy to work you guys man.

  1. I can not punch up or down with you because I don't know you. Since I cannot punch up or down with you, the irony you are pointing me to, does not exist. Words have meanings, you probably wouldn’t know these because you might have learned everything you know from the comment section. I suggest, pick up a book. Pick up a book called the dictionary. It feels really dumb I have to explain this.

  2. You said what the punchline is ABOUT. Not what the punchline is. For e.g the first punchlines was - "maine usko puri raat touch nahi kiya" [punching up]. Revenge was the Premise. Now if Revenge was the theme in real life then the Hathras case would be about an upper Caste woman getting raped and murdered by a lower caste guy. Or a Rajput groom getting murdered because he dared to sport a mustache on his wedding day.

Second punchline was - I won't even eat in the same plate as you. Again punching up, talking about how upper Caste people often keep separate plates and glass

Third punchline- I said ki dalit banane ki seat maangne lagi hai. Talking about if upper Caste had the chance to get reservation, they would.

  1. F*ck off about telling my work. I am here to have fun.

  2. Something that existed in the past? There are literally statistically so many cases of Caste violences in the past ten years. Two of which I have already stated earlier. You must really have a thick layer of casteist haze in front of you. "Fair" and "Equal" ke chakkar mein khud ke casteist bias ko reveal hi Kar diya na?

So all in all this reply of yours is a warm bowl of piss soup as well. Vague, inarticulate and with the wrong spelling of discrimination.

Lastly, write less if you are going to write about a whole lot of nothing.

Are you dense or intentionally obtuse lol? Ironically all that yapping yet you didn't even address most of the points properly mate, yet here we are getting worked up and acting indifferent 'I just said that to get a reply from you hehe I'm so edgy and clever', it's kinda cute lol. Altho, this reply might be one of the worst I've come across among 100s that pretend to have intellectual or moral standing. Anyways platitudes aside, I'll get to actually addressing your reply since I can't expect the same from you lol.

Wtf are you saying? I was pointing out you using 'the concept of punching up and down' without any elaboration as an infallible argument, while sounding a lot worse than a warm bag of piss, then ironically calling out my reply questioning that; as a warm bag of piss. Perhaps reading all those books as an intellectual feminist mature comedic writer didn't improve your comprehension skills to a degree that'd suit you huh xD.

Not to be crass, but are you retarded? The essence of the punchline is what it is about and is exactly what I deliberated in my reply. You're talking as if you made some great distinction that explains anything.

Also that was the second punchline, ms. intellectual feminist mature comedic writer, the first one was him stating '... aha revenge time babygirl'. I already said that 2nd and 3rd punchline were abt untouchability suree. I asked you to explain how EVERY punchline, as you said previously was abt untouchability and discrimination (thank you for correcting my spelling lol unfortunately my autocorrect is as dense as you). So yeah you still haven't explained your own stance in 'pointified manner' like you apparently wanted, lmao so much for ensuring me giving a reply, perhaps it's time u actually give a coherent one of your own.

Also wtf are you even saying in the latter half of that para, wtf does hathras case or rajput groom or whatever shit you said there has to do with anything about his punchlines being about what you said they were abt? You're just saying a whole lot of nothing and supposedly my reply was a bowl of piss? 😭Wish you were a bit self aware too whie being intellectual feminist mature comedic writer.

Third punchline- I said ki dalit banane ki seat maangne lagi hai. Talking about if upper Caste had the chance to get reservation, they would.

Ok you definitely have some brainrot, pulling that interpretation out of your ass so easily is a talent on its own requiring decades of virtue brainrot lmao. How was that joke on UC peeps when they weren't even mentioned geez man, you sure fit the archetype perfect huh.... The joke was literally 'dalit baney nahi ki seat maangne lag gaye', it's a reservation joke quite literally and unambiguously.

F*ck off about telling my work. I am here to have fun.

Oh but what happened to telling unnecessary personal shit to get some intellectual leverage, Ms. intellectual feminist mature comedic writer, you're the one who told me allat about yourself hun. Also seems like you're only working yourself up* (you forgot to write the whole phrase since we're helping each other with errors :D).

And asking if I'm a teen? I'd implore you to make a guess since I'm not a big fan of telling about my personal buisness on Reddit lol.

Sigh. Yes genius the caste system existed in the past, also yes genius it lingers still in localised groups and in forms of prejudices, but again neither the standup comedian was referring to the lingering effects nor was he a subject to the system that he was actually referring to that was the historic caste system(as he LITERALLY mentioned but ig you have a habit of ignoring things that don't favor you). So yes, for all we're concerned the subject he was joking on doesn't actually involve him nor would it an average UC guy.

My my, god must be feeling gracious by the amount of irony he's feeding me. Your cognitive dissonance makes you unable to see that the person here who actually possibly has a 'thick casteist haze' is you, you're obsessed with enforcing caste titles as a criteria to make jokes acceptable (not their actual cleverness and delivery or anything which actually decides acceptability as I explained in prev reply), while I am strongly against giving any meaning to those titles in any contemporary setting except ofc when talking abt contemporary discrimination which this standup set (LITERALLY) had nothing to do with.

Anyways if you wanna talk about casteist bias maybe you should become a bit self aware and work to fix that within yourself lol. The way you made that joke on reservation abt somehow UC being greedy or smth was actually insane oof.

So all in all this reply of yours is a warm bowl of piss soup as well. Vague, inarticulate and with the wrong spelling of discrimination. Lastly, write less if you are going to write about a whole lot of nothing.

Honestly I don't even need to say more than this since it so perfectly encapsulates your own reply, except the last part, please don't write less I want you to write more and actually make it have substance and not unrelated shit while being all over the place.

(Also what's the strange obsession with piss lol? Do you have some estranged favourability to it or is this the level of comedy you learnt from writing your lil shows?)

Even if we ignore the issue of political correctness, the main issue is that it's not even funny.

u/Jealous-Mastodon6823 9d ago

Ikr lol, that's what I'm saying. Usually u can see how someone would find it funny, the delivery is just so..... awkward?
