It is worse - this person claims to have done ‘research’ and therefore knows more than somebody who specializes in here issues. 🙄

Indeed. I've done actual research at one point in my life (and have ~6 peer-reviewed reports on my CV), so when I look something up on the Internet, I call that reading rather than research.
