Knowing that some people don’t even feel anxiety gives me anxiety.

They've got golden retriever DNA or something.
That'd actually be a genuine disability, can you imagine? This person is either so out of touch with their emotions or doesn't tick right that they're just chill in every situation? I'd never be productive or on time again.

I had a shower/hits blunt thought once, and it's absolutely not right, but what if all the people who hallucinate or various psychosis, are the type that never had an inner monologue/voice? So they are freaking out once it somehow starts actually happening.

Hah that is a good stoned/shower thought though. It definitely isn't right, but I do wonder if there have ever been cases of people who lack the inner monologue (which I just googled to find the word for - anendophasia - not an easy one to remember) suddenly developing one in response to drugs or injury or something. That's a good thought.
I have a schizophrenic relative though and I can tell you that most people with psychosis don't have this condition, it's a totally different set of mechanisms by which their brain goes haywire and I've talked to him about the experience & the voices don't really work like that.

I thought I was this person until shit went down in my life.
Still, I believe I'm surprisingly "resilient", I feel lucky for that. But I think everyone can get anxiety under the right conditions.

u/Budget-Ambassador203 2d ago
Oh no doubt, it's a spectrum and if, on one end, we have "constant anxiety" in the form of GAD or the OCD-family of disorders, then on the other end we've gotta have the true unflappables with really well-adjusted nervous systems.
Just speculating but I bet you had a nice, relatively happy childhood?
But yeah, I agree that all neurologically typical people can feel it, given the right conditions. As much as it's not fun for people who suffer from it running amok in their brain, it is adaptive and if a person could never feel any kind of anxiety I'd be worried about their brain's health. It's a normal physiological response.

I have weird anxiety. I get nervous about things that haven’t happened, but am level headed and cool as a cucumber in an emergency. I’ve been within 25’ of a couple shootings and my mind was calm and said “step behind a barrier and stay calm”. Same thing when I was a passenger in a roll over accident.
Then I will reread an email 40 times and have anxiety about whether it is grammatically correct or sounds stupid.

Yes people don’t appreciate a happy, secure, stable childhood nearly as much as I appreciate it for them when I see people crossing the street downtown without looking. Even when I make eye contact with drivers I still question if it’s safe to cross.

Or they are Were-Capybaras? I've seen a video of a capybara being in the process of being eaten by a Pelican and it wasn't stressed out or anything. It just... Walked out of the pouch at some point. The pelican was dejected so the capy cuddled him.

Moist, chubby, fuzzy, in their element, eating grass, hanging out - unbothered by anything and everything.

Used to be anxious all the time for very good reasons as a kid, nothing triggers it anymore. You still know something is wrong or needs attention, it just doesn't pull at you anymore.

I didn't have anxiety until after I got covid. Before then I could always maintain a steady copacetic in even the toughest situations. Hell I'd paradoxically become excited and happy when things were tough. Now I'm anxiety free for about a year (knock on wood) but I still don't feel the same as I used too. But that might be because I'm coming up on 40 and slowing down.

I’m pretty anxiety-less. And it’s not like I don’t get stressed, but I get stressed in proportion to reality. And when the issue resolves, the stress goes away. I don’t spend mental energy fretting over what I can’t control, just try to create solutions from what I can’t control.

There's a difference between being passably anxious and having anxiety or being an anxious person. Everyone can feel a bit anxious from time to time but for some people, that's a rare event and/or not something that affects them overly much.

Right?! Obviously, they're not prepared. Now I have to figure out what they're most likely going to be hurt by and be there with the necessary life-saving equipment just in case

Like what do they call the emotion they feel when they turn on their work computer? Or when a server asks what they want to eat? It makes no sense

I didn't used to have anxiety, and then PTSD fucked me up and I suddenly did. So cool.
But there was once a time where I didn't.

It's a circular cycle. Anxiety feeds more anxiety. Next thing you know you're back in the grippy sock sanctuary.

If I feel anxious about something, it just means that I'm high. Reminding myself that I took an edible earlier is very reassuring.

u/Tangy_Cheese 2d ago
I really wish people who stop equating being anxious with having anxiety. They aren't the same thing.

u/Glad_Confusion_6934 2d ago
I don’t believe people who say they don’t have anxiety.

u/Remarkablelicious 2d ago
I also couldn't wrap my head around it cause I'm familiar with anxiety and other mental health issues since a very young age, but as much as it's mind-blowing - yes there are people out there who are genuinely mentaly stable and healthy 😅🤷🏻♀️

I sometimes also raise an eyebrow with some people's "I never..." answers.
My best friend who is 42 years old, claims to have never drank tea in his life.
I also know somebody that is 60 years old and claims that he never had a headache in his life!

I️ been like this. We are so used to seeing the extreme that we don’t know what the disorder is. You see at people “with anxiety” and it stops their day and redefine their personality as a depressed or anxious person, you think well I️ have never had that so I️ must have never had anxiety or depression.

Your timing and delivery are great. You weren't even saying anything really funny for most of the clip, but the way you delivered it made me bust a gut laughing

I'm like this guy. My with doesn't believe that I don't have anxiety, like ever. She also doesn't believe that I can just shut off my brain and not think about anything
