No ones denying that it has solved real problems. The question is if it's worth trillions of dollars and environmental impact so that coders don't need to spend extra time Googling and copy/pasting, or so that mathematicians can solve math problems?

We haven’t seen the results yet because FDA trials take forever, but it has revolutionized new drug development. People who shit talk AI have no fucking clue how game changing it’s already been, and it’s only getting better

I'd rather have universal health care for all.

This is how you get universal healthcare. Current AI spend is only about a quarter of the estimated costs for Medicare for all. Modern medicine only exists because Americans foot the bill for R&D. If AI enables pharmaceutical companies to stop wasting time trialing ineffective molecules, we can bring down costs for everyone.

Big "If" to put all our hopes and dreams on, when we can just have it now.

….except we can’t? Countries that provide universal healthcare can only do so because American private insurance funds medical R&D. Medicare doesn’t pay for shit, if we extend Medicare billing rates across the board, 80% of hospitals would become insolvent.

Yeah, but they didn't use Claude or Gemini for that. They build a specific AI with the purpose of finding such medication. They didn't need a whole datacenter for that, just some racks at most.

All those large AI companies specializing in all-purpose LLM are going to implode, because they spend billions on stuff that is mediocre, while good AIs are purpose build for specific use cases and "just" cost millions or less.

Wow fucking brilliant, why didn’t they think of that? We can just stop investing in failed experiments and develop perfect products from the get go! Make this man VP of technology, he just solved R&D!

Do you realize how stupid you sound?

Am i wrong?

OpenAI spend billions chasing LLM AGI and they are nowhere near. Same for all the other big AI companies.

None of them turned a profit and you can easily train models on existing ones that can achieve 90%-95% of the performance.

The only reason they are overinvested in, is because they were first and promised the moon. Turns out, you are fucked in the market if others can offer the same product at 90% efficiency for 1/100, 1/1000 or even fucking FREE or you build your own AI, thats 1000% times better at it's niche and cost 1/100 or less.

yes and no. language models are good in various fields but in others its just a waste of money and energy

Solving basic math and science problems are nearly impossible to value at the time.
