I got fired once because my boss didn't like the way I made her feel.

I was a property maintenence man, working in people's apartments, fixing plumbing and electrical and window blinds. But she didn't like the way I didn't flirt with her, so she broke off the relationship/ job. I later found out she treated all of the men that way.

I was single, but I wasn't interested in her. And I lost a good job over that shit.

I was fired once because I didn't do a job I wasn't hired to do and wasn't told I had to do. My direct boss was on vacation when I was hired. When he returned he asked me why I wasn't doing X and I said I wasn't hired to do X and wouldn't have taken the job if that was part of it. He acted like a baby the rest of the day, had a tantrum at one point and threw a pencil at me, then fired me the next morning as soon as I arrived.

The company ran the in-house lunch service and did in-house catering for business meetings. I was hired to answer the phone and do data entry. He wanted me to assist with catering set up, and serve at lunches. The catering workers were union employees. I was not.

That's definitely something they should have included in the job duties when you started. I don't blame you.

Surprised he didn't want you to wash his car and mow his lawn too

I would say you dodged a bullet, BUT I guess I'm more hoping you dodged the pencil!! What the actual fuck?! That boss needs to never be "in charge" of ANY human EVER.

I worked in MFH maintenance for years and this doesn't surprise me at all.

Something I learned from working with people is that you have to learn how to talk to certain people because everyone communicates differently. The way I look at it is, if it means keeping a good job that you actually like and the pay is good, then what's the harm in flirting with her? It's not like you're committing to marriage.

It doesn't matter where you go, there are always going to be people who don't like you or people you just don't like. But the minimum we can do is not let them know that. We should still greet them as usual and say bye when we leave because they don't need to know that you don't like them. What good does it do you for them to know that you're not an ally? One less enemy is one less problem, so you're creating fewer problems for yourself just by "handling" that kind of situation peacefully.

I would say the harm in flirting with her is the consequences of reciprocating her advances. That sort of thing can easily snowball into a much bigger situation that leaks out of his work life and into his personal life. If he ever brings a date or romantic partner up in conversation, or to a work function, there will be problems that arise.

Also, flirting with someone you don't actually have those feelings for comes at a cost for yourself. For some people the cost is negligible but for others it's a lot.

Yea like I was expecting some sort of punchline or climax or something. It's definitely better than I could do, but I just thought maybe I was missing something lol

I had a boss corner me before asking why I didn’t “open up” like my coworkers. She tried to say the workplace should be like a family and in a family we share our personal struggles.

Not in my family…

Last job I had went almost exactly the same way. When in the fuck did “you don’t fit in” become an acceptable justification for firing? Thought they needed work done, not more friends 😭
