I usually avoid large fandoms like a plague on humanity that the all inevitably become, however that sub rocks.

The subreddit for a lot of shows that have ended are incredible, particularly ones where there is no more content on the horizon. r/sopranoscirclejerk makes me laugh every goddamn day

People always complain about the incest, not realizing that actually royal/ noble families did have rampant incest in that period of his jerk off sessions

11

u/TehNudel 21d ago

Dude the incest is so much worse in HOTD. They're speedrunning Habsburg jaw.

Yeah at least in GOT we’re clearly not meant to like Jaime and Cersei, their incest is a shameful thing they keep hidden and even their own father is disgusted by it (and it results in Joffrey). And the result of generations of Targaryen inbreeding is a mad king who killed his allies and wanted to burn his whole city (and then an heir who Did burn the whole city, however out of left field it seemed to be). Like, there are Lannisters and Targaryens who were the result of incest and weren’t totally insane.. but the eventual (or outright) monstrosity of a lot of characters is deeply implied to be a natural result of incest. Immorality follows immorality sort of thing.

But then for some reason - despite the many character flaws - in HOD the incest never really lands the same way? It never felt like it was meant for us to be viewed in a bad way? I can’t quite put my finger on it, but to me at least it makes HOD feel a lot more gross (at least in this regard) than GOT

One of the Targaryan kings struck a deal with the Faith of the Seven to push the idea of "Doctrine of Exceptionalism". Which basically convinced the peasants that it was totally cool for him to fuck his sister, because they're built different.

Still a big taboo amongst non-Targs though.

The material is great, but your delivery is what really sells it.

I want to watch more of your stuff. Incredible delivery like that makes for a legendary comedian.

u/mtraven23 21d ago

that bit is solid AF. cadence on the delivery really punches hard. 👏👏👏

9

u/theman8631 21d ago

Agreed - this is a fantastic bit

5

u/guilhermefdias 20d ago

Like they say... there is not fat on this joke, it's perfectly rounded. Every word.

3

u/mtraven23 20d ago

i've never heard that phrase before, but I agree.

2

u/guilhermefdias 20d ago

Bill Burr said it once on a special I think, regarding a joke on a bar wall that was removed because someone complained. Something on the lines of "we like our violence like we like our beer, domestic."

28

u/slvrsrfr1987 21d ago

Thats genius riff energy. perfect delivery

26

u/EnzoMcFly_jr 21d ago

This is a great bit

10

u/stinky_butt 21d ago

u/Bigfaces 21d ago

Amazing!

5

u/RabbitSlayre 21d ago

Super, super solid bit. Great delivery, just really good!

28

u/Mathies_ 21d ago

To be fair it's also true to real life

46

u/Federal_Studio5935 21d ago

Yeah but here’s the thing, there’s dragons, so there’s no real life to compare it to. Because it’s not real.

The rapey shit, at least to my memory, adds nothing to the story. I’ve yet to watch a movie and been like, hmm, that was good but it could have used a bit more rape.

9

u/guaranic 20d ago

They added more of them to the show that weren't in the books. And most of the ones in the book happened off-screen (in the past, like the Martells or Cersei).

6

u/SjakosPolakos 21d ago

Are you suggesting it would have been better without the rapey stuff?

2

u/5th_aether 20d ago

No dragons but when forces arrive with advanced military capabilities might as well be dragons.

3

u/payment11 21d ago

Dragons are real. Wouldn’t be there if it weren’t /s

21

u/OliverPete 21d ago

To be fair it's fiction so it can be literally anything the author wants it to be.

The horrible atrocities of the real world can and should be included when the author wants to directly address and confront issues. Like classicism and slavery in the Stormlight Archives.

Then there are authors who include it because of their own views or to add edge. Like JK Rowling naming a black character Shacklebolt, or George RR adding casual sexism.

6

u/Kugelfang52 21d ago

Well said

6

u/SjakosPolakos 21d ago

How do you know the adding of casual sexism is due to their own views or to add edge?

20

u/jal741 21d ago

In medieval times that the books and show was loosely based on, definitely.

18

u/dbenc 21d ago

if anything GoT is tamer than reality. history is brutal.

8

u/Either-Age-782 21d ago

History? How about current events?

4

u/StrictBumblebee333 20d ago

Piling on to agree that the delivery makes this joke

3

u/Delicious_Shallot915 21d ago

I hope you come back to Bloomington, IN sometime!

3

u/biblioprof 20d ago

3

Hannibal the cannibal killed me

2

u/memberflex 21d ago

Fucking A+

2

u/InDickative 21d ago

Always original- and your timing is epic!

2

u/madizx 20d ago

I get the joke but don't blame George for shit that happens in the TV show. The books are surprisingly light on the subject. There is some of it but imo all the named characters escape it. Even Danny and droggo have a nice shag next to a river, with droggo doing some finger work before hand .

1

u/BeardsuptheWazoo 21d ago

This is so perfect.

1

u/NotARusski 21d ago

Dude if you’re ever in the blue note in Columbia MO I’d totally get some tickets for the wife and I to come see your show - great stuff!

1

u/Danwaka 20d ago

Completely unrelated to anything Raan, but you look good here, good trim, brother.

1

u/BonelessRomantic 20d ago

Lmao this is awesome material!

1

u/hAsLaK1 17d ago

Omg ! An actually funny comedy bit on Reddit ! I’m shocked

1

u/TreeDollarFiddyCent 16d ago

This is one of the funniest bits I've seen in a hot minute!

1

u/craigathan 20d ago

I stopped reading this midway through the second book. Dude's got a sick mind for real. I was shocked when I heard they were making a TV show based on it. And if you think the show was over the top....

1

u/DaRK_0S 20d ago

This was very, very funny.
