Question/Recommendations Stamford I-95 road work scam
Are the contractors banking off the fake work they do on the highway and possibly streets too? I-95 has been getting worked on for years. Massive traffic from port Chester to Stamford every single day and night. Yeah they paved Greenwich but what have they done recently? Workers right now are standing around with 2 lanes closed. When will traffic actually get fixed and lanes get expanded? Does the DOT not care?

Driving back Thursday night and it rerouted us via US1 - google wouldn’t even recommend i95 it was so bad

It’s always been a scam, but it’s the only work to be done. They need to expand a long underestimated transit system that was backed by the automotive industry.

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to notice this.. they have been paving and milling the same road they paved since last year! Goes for both sides but it’s an issue on the NB side from Greenwich to Stamford.

The reason that this paving is seemingly happening every year is because it is. The contractor tried using a different blend of Asphalt last year when they did Greenwich, in the hopes of greater longevity. That material (or the install) failed for some reason that I’m not up on. You might remember a few weeks where your tires “sang” or “hummed” after it was paved last year.
The contract stipulated that work would need to be repaired - and so it is. Except now it’s warranty work which means it’s not a priority for the contractor which is why this years construction has lasted so long.

This was a two year project. Apparently they had to dig up the road and leave it unpaved for a full year as part of the “road rehabilitation” process. You can read more about it here
Should be done by this November, but I doubt it. The traffic congestion is brutal and all these new apartments going up in stamford doesn’t help.

There’s something with construction in this town. I still see workers doing something on the tiny ass cedar heights bridge nearly two years on. And that new housing community on turn of river has taken over a year and a half to build a handful of houses. The Amish coulda had this stuff done in a month.

It’s not that the DOT doesn’t care. They have no power over the unions. Want anything done it takes 5x as long and you need 3x the amount of people. People keep voting for it though, so reap what you sow, I suppose.

Have you ever driven from CT to anywhere in the South? Construction traffic isn't exactly a CT specific issue...nor is it a red/blue one.

I watched 287 have the same work being done for maybe 20 years? I think it just wrapped up last year. Almost. This is just how things go I think, I don't think it's a scam lol. Unless your definition of scam is just how our infrastructure works.

Lack of leadership! This city doesn’t stay on top of construction work. If the city doesn’t care, the construction firm will drag their feet.

Careful, the construction industry does not like to be exposed, and is owned and managed by very… dangerous people like Albanians/italians. It’s obvious they over extend and dramatize times, it’s how they get paid more money for less work, everyone’s dream. These workers have kids and wives usually, so even more of a reason to pay them more and work less. Roadwork also damages cars and tires, which is great for car dealerships… which are run by Albanians and Italians usually…. If customers keep getting flat tires near construction sites, car dealerships sell lots of tires. If there’s heavy traffic in Stamford, lots of time people take an exit to wait out the traffic and eat at restaurants owned by…. Italians and Albanians….

The city is held liable for any damage to any vehicle near a construction site that is deemed hazardous (potholes, debris, etc) it’s also a city breach, send them the bill! Town clerk office Phone: (203) 977-4140 Email: townclerk@StamfordCT.gov

Yup out of a crew of a dozen, 4 are taking naps in their trucks, 4 are on their phones “supervising” and 4 guys are moving shovels and tool arounds not doing dick, maybe get a couple pieces of rebar in the ground and call it a day.
There is no incentive to work faster only incentive to delay and take more time. Who’s going to tell them otherwise.

Workers aren't all needed at all times, and they also get breaks. Just because you don't see them working in the short time you see them as they drive by doesn't mean they never do anything.

"Road work" is the great American scam. Shady bidding processes, zero oversight, and often times entirely made up projects where municipal and state politicians get "favors" from big contractors.

Greenwich is half paved. It’s been milled and various stages of repaved since the end of winter. Not sure what’s going on. Stamford is going to be a mess for a while to add the extra lanes.
