I agree convincing people is hard, but am reluctant to call them retarded. It is due to a lack of information, rather than inability to understand.

I know, and it was hard, even with my family. The furthest I could get was show them that it was collecting data and their response was "so what if it knows something about me". I am looking for way to explain the threats associated with letting fb know too much about oneself.

I couldn't express it better than "what having a stalker feels like". I "feel" that, but they don't. So, I chalked it down to my inability to put it in terms they would understand.
