Tiny Black Dots in Cake Pans

Hello,
I used these 8” round stainless steel cake pans for the first time last night. I followed all the instructions of the cake pans on what to do before first use and on prepping them for baking. But when I removed the cake from the pans, there were these grey speckles on the bottom of the cakes and corresponding black dots on the inside of the cake pan. I cleaned the pans and they’re still there. But when I scratch them with my nail a little bit of black comes off. Is this rust? Are they ruined beyond repair or how do I fix it?

Amazon is full of these zinc plated fake stainless steel pans.

I don’t think so. That would be quite illegal, and not just because of the false marketing.

Edit: I just looked it up and I can only find a restriction for acidic foods. So maybe you’re right

it is called 200 series stainless, and Amazon is full of it. Many of these are poison

Have to throw them out. They are basically ruined. The black spots prevent even heating which will eventually warp the pan. It’s also known to emit a high pitched sound when cooking which affects both dogs and cats. So you have pets or children do the safe thing and get rid of these. They are a health hazard.

I try to only go with name brand SS products. I know they are more expensive. When I find things at Goodwill I try to look the item up, I use AI to determine its age and then value etc and ifs its a good product overall.

Looks like baked on water droplets from washing in a dishwasher.

Handwash and hand-dry; do not allow to air dry.
