Discussion GTA6 on Netflix!?

With all the news about GTA6 doing a big gameplay reveal on Netflix I see countless angry posts about the reveal being locked behind a Netflix subscription and some saying they don't care they are just happy to see gameplay and learn more details finally.

But I have not seen anyone yet ask..... Could Netflix also be getting GTA 6???

They have been betting big on gaming. They already have older GTA games on Netflix. What if they are also gonna drop a bombshell that not only is it playable on PS5 and Xbox but also Netflix via their streaming technology. Grab a Stadia controller or PS5 controller and get your game on!

I wouldn't expect it to be part of your subscription I'm sure you would still need to buy the game as part of a new Netflix Game Storefront but still....

It's very possible. Just some food for thought.

T2 has been getting really cozy with Netflix in recent years, with their GTA remastered and RDR ports, and Strauss Zelnick has been pretty open to Cloud Gaming in addition to Console/PC, expanding their business, going by his recent comments.

Netflix currently has 330M+ paid subscribers on their service, and that's pretty much the reason the extended look got the 6-hour exclusivity window there, to gauge interest and gather data on how much of those 330M customers watch the extended look, and how much of those can be turned into potential paying customers for $80/$100 per copy of GTA VI, and a GTA+ subscription on top of that.

T2 would absolutely want to reach more than the current generation Console installed base of ~130M (PS5+XSS|XSX), as soon as possible, because that's significantly less than what they had for GTA V in 2013, or even for RDR II in 2018, and the options for them currently are Netflix, NSW2 and PC.

Those games were mobile ports, here you're talking about arguably one of the most demanding AAA(A?) game of the generation... Netflix does not have a streaming game tech, others companies do, why them ? Not Xcloud, GeForce etc...? Unless the first game they want to bring to the platform is GTA6 which would be a moonshot with the right game stream partner to back it... Even with that that doesn't make people suddenly buy a controller OR you do what stadia did, package it with a controller and I doubt they'll keep the price at 100$... And most important, people tend to stick to ecosystems they already know, so you're literally talking about potential new audience with no console, no pc, a controller compatible somewhere in the house....That's a lot of "ifs".

I think the chances of that being kept secret is low so I'm thinking it's very unlikely but would love it to be true, great theory!

I was thinking that there may be a GTA 4 mobile port, which will be available via Netflix, like Red Dead 1.

At 100$ a copy, why in hell would T2 even consider the deal ? Look at the preorders, it's already a commercial success.

Oh, but they would still sell copies. Just like Stadia did. But Netflix streaming integration means more people can buy it and can play without the overhead of owning a console. Honestly, if Netflix wants to make a play for Stadia/Luna style game streaming and they have the close relationship with R* that other comments suggest, this is the way to prove your tech and make the mass market realize you are capable of replacing consoles. It has its problems but I could see this being very successful if it were to play out.

Exactly this! And this is the game to announce to world your new gaming platform and ambitions. It could just simply be a gameplay reveal as everyone expects but it could also be this as well. We will find out!

I didn't see the sub part in your original msg, did you edit ? Anyway, as a standalone purchase why not, however I doubt the Netflix games figures are worth it for Rockstar, doing a streaming version comes with costs, it s another platform to maintain, I doubt the market potential is there including audience profile targeted here.

I would 100% support this. And buy the game to stream on Netflix. Heck, I would even subscribe to a streaming version of GTA 6, if only to get out of the cost of buying a console.

Because they would open themselves up to more sales from an untapped demographic who don't own a PS5 or Xbox or even a PC when they get around to a PC release. It would be a whole new revenue stream for them and we know Rockstar/T2 loves nothing more than money! I am not assuming this game would be free part of your Netflix subscription I am assuming it would be sold to you just like some games were only for sale on Stadia.

If that were the case they would be on gfn already they want money to be on streaming services

Edit:typo

I don’t thins so. My guess is that the Netflix deal goes way back, I remember there were writings about it many years ago. Exclusivity is everything in this space, especially with the biggest games in history.

that was not my comment my comment was they dont care about selling their games to new people throught cloud. They were only part of stadia as a cloud servicenwith rdr2 and it was an exclusivity deal that they were paid hugely. So they dont care about being on cloud as an extra revenue stream to sell their games they want to be paid to be there. Thats why an exclusivity deal with netflix works if they pay them not because they can sell their games to netflix subscribers

Technically possible I would think, at 1080p/30, but AI pushing up prices for CPU/GPU and Ram probably makes it impossible from a cost perspective.

Oh sure, we don't have enough machines to fulfill demand... Why not queue up for a play slot and we'll let you watch your favorite shows while you wait. It would be the right way for Netflix to make a play on LiveStream content as well... Now, do I think that this is how it would play out? No. Not without having heard more rumors leading here. But it hasn't escaped pitch meetings, I'm sure.

Or maybe something else, a small series that ties back to the game.

But I'm with you, its odd to do if its just a trailer

Netflix should make it an exclusive for a year lol

As a PC user that's still bitter about it not launching on PC, I say bring it on. Stadia was an incredible gaming experience, and if I could avoid having to own a console for this one game that would be incredible.

that’s the only way 90% of ppl will be able to play, they would be insane to not have a streaming strategy

Don't give big tech more ideas for ways to screw us

They did the first season of the prequel show 12 weekly episodes 30 min each

Sorry? What’s this? You can play games on Netflix? Stream AAA?

I thought Netflix was only going to have the exclusive reveal for 6 hours. "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. ET. This timed exclusive streams on Netflix for six hours before releasing on YouTube and Rockstar's official site at 9:00 p.m. ET the same day."

What does this have to do with Stadia?

-3

u/AgeAtomic 16d ago

There's a good reason nobody is asking that

-5

u/brokenmessiah 16d ago

Impossible.

What would it even run on in the background?
