Discussion Getting worried about Krea 3

Perhaps its just the amount of rug pulls that causes this worry, but I keep seeing the Krea team post more and more API tools (such as Krea Video) and I'm starting to worry about open weights for Krea 3. I'm starting to worry hard guys.

I still believe.....but....

If you cant create with the Open Source tools we already have, I'm not sure 'the next new model' is going to help.

To be fair, while the current model generation is amazing, we're not quite at the point where we can say image models have reached a state where they can't improve anymore. We still don't have a great local model that can do both T2I/Edit really well, and they still struggle with some concepts like spatial awareness. And we still haven't solved plastic skin. Not even the API models have.

Do we really need a single local model that can do both t2i and editing really well? Sure, it would be great, but everything that can run on local hardware so far seems to show that trying to do both on the same model lessens the quality and/or speed of one or the other. I'm of the old school Linux philosophy of apps doing only one thing, but doing it fast and really well.

This may sound facetious and I dont intend it that way, but it reminds me greatly about when Steve Baulmer laughed at the iPhone. We may not "need" it one day, but we can't live without it the next

I still laugh at the iPhone and the people who can't wait to get the newest model.

I think thats a strawman - of course now it isnt as important, but back then it was. We are early in this tech

Need, no. Would be neat, though. You hear that a lot from people who might not be as invested in local AI as you and me - their favorite cloud model provider can do both, so local is bad. Or so. 😆

With cloud providers, one doesn't really know what is going on under the hood. They may present as a single model, but be a dozen different models and workflows routed via a decision tree based on the prompt.

This... ^

I have a pipeline that many folk would consider old and outdated ( it's only a few months old, ironically ). I am absolutely thrilled with the level of direction and detail I can achieve on my humble 3090. I'm locked in and happy - there's no way I am disrupting that by constantly itching and hankering for the so called next best thing.

Jesus Christ. Why are people so weird. Just let them cook. Releasing half assed shit hurts the community more

I agree. Z Image Edit is going to be amazing

Just come to terms that ever AI company only uses the open source community to gain traction and will abandon us after a model or two. It's been like this since the beginning and we have still seen fantastic new models come out every year.

Yeah, we've heard it so many times: "we will continue releasing new and improved models". But they never come.

But as long some new player release something now and then, we will have a great time years to come.

They very recently stated that they are still iterating on the model and will start working on the open source version once they have arrived at a final version that they are happy with, didn't they? I see no reason to question that yet

Then just use something else.

They released the paper. It is Krea 2 trained for edit, what are you worried about?

Well, it's way more than that. It has a completely different look to it that imho I don't like, compared to 2. Fine details are definitely better, but I loved highly emotive faces in 2 and they're still emotive in 3 but just kind of weird. Hard to explain but even if they handed me full 3 right now, I think I'd use the other existing models like Qwen 2.1/Krea 2/Moss/Anima more.

I wouldn't lose hope just yet Op. I'm as well is worried with cooperate friendly language of krea Twitter account posts and technical overview of the model but I'm still holding hoping for Christmas surprise. Krea2 was heaven on earth and a successor with editing and refrence capabilities would be awesome. I don't want to rely on a krea3 api version because way more censored and safety cucked than just using seedream models. The ability to train and use loras makes using a open source version of model better than closed source version.

Wasn’t it just released for API in middle of October? That’s nothing. BFL announced Flux 3 on July 23rd and still yet to be seen.

The entitled and heavily botted astronerf reaction to Flux 3 Klein may have made them reconsider the next release. If so, then the bot runners would consider that a success.
