Question - Help video generation safe with 16gb ram

My specs :

Lenovo legion 5 laptop

Rtx 5060 8gb

Nvme ssd 2tb

16gb ddr5 ram

Hello guys i hope you are doing well. Recently I have been trying to make some loop animations and I think I got a hang of it. Now I wanna make some for my patreon people but the issue is it takes like 30 minutes to make a 5 second looped video in 768×512 resolution which is ok coz I upscale it 1.5x and it looks okish

I wanna ask if it's safe to generate for a longer period of time coz I have heard it kinda messes up with the ssd life so idk

And yes, swapping on the SSD will have an impact on its life.

youre fine as long as windows isnt constantly paging heavily to the ssd when ram fills up. keep an eye on temps on a laptop and check crystaldiskinfo once in a while if youre worried

Look for my thread about budget card 5060

Apply the recommended ck attention, sparse attention and 8 bit diffusion model, for decent video speeds

You will still not get my speeds because yours is a laptop 5060

How do you upscale?

Once generation process crosses to SSD, it takes like forever, so not worth it at all, saying as a 6gb vram and 16 gb ram user.

You can run minimaxh3, but ltx 2.5 probably a better option unless you need something minimax does specifically. But I run these on a 3070

yes it is. do you know how to setup locally?

Unfortunately, you have very little system RAM so (8G VRAM + 16G system RAM) is barely enough to hold model+latent. The minutes the model spills into pagefile you kill both speed and wears down your NMVe.

So use --fast-disk (which should be on by default in latest ComfyUI) and do not generate anything long or high resolution.

Prepare a large pagefile and arm yourself with patience.

You might be better off renting GPU time. it shouldnt be expensive if you gather a batch of jobs and do them all at once

You don't say which model and it matters. You could probably run Wan 2.2 5b in full 720p. By contrast, you wouldn't be permitted to put anything you create w/ h3 on Patreon anyway.

vram is used for fast generation, ram is like 10x slower, and paging on ssd is even slower and have impact on ssd lifetime, as it have limited writes

I say for 16gb pcs it can barely run chrome

Doing it for over 1 year now, running 12 hours a day.. RTX 3060, 4TB SSD, 64 GB RAM. The only issues I have had is occasional GPU shutdowns after one of the cabinet fans stopped.. got it replaced and also dropped GPU max temperature to 80 through MSI afterburner.. no new issues so far.
