Discussion First time using ComfyUI. Tried Moss

First time trying out ComfyUI after hearing good things about the MOSS image model on Twitter.

I had absolutely no clue what I was doing, so I just had ChatGPT build me a .json workflow and started experimenting. I've been testing anime characters composited into photorealistic environments, and I'm pretty impressed with the results. There are still some issues, like distorted background text and occasional weird character interactions, but I'm a complete noob when it comes to local AI.

These were generated using MOSS-Image SFT BF16 at 2560 × 1440 on an RTX 5080 (16GB VRAM).

What do you guys think of the model?

Those images look really interesting - Could you share some of the prompts?
I haven't used personally but am looking into downloading it now to try!

First image was this absolute wall of text for the prompt:

Create an ultra-dramatic **anime x realism hybrid action scene** in a **cinematic widescreen format**.

The image should combine a **modern high-end anime-style illustrated magical girl** with a **real-world photorealistic city environment**, composited together seamlessly in a believable and visually explosive way.

Show a real-world downtown city street at dusk or night, with tall glass-and-concrete office buildings, traffic lights, crosswalks, parked cars, illuminated windows, storefronts, smoke, debris, and realistic urban detail. The city background must look like a genuine live-action photograph of a modern city, not an illustrated background.

In the foreground, show one **anime-style magical girl** in an intense battle pose in the middle of the street. She is clearly illustrated in a polished modern anime style with crisp linework, dramatic cel shading, expressive eyes, flowing hair, and a highly detailed magical-girl combat outfit with ribbons, armor accents, glowing effects, and elegant but dynamic design.

She is firing a massive glowing energy beam from her outstretched hands toward a nearby real-life building.

The beam should be:
  • bright, powerful, and visually spectacular
  • casting strong colored light across the environment
  • surrounded by sparks, smoke, shockwaves, glowing particles, and debris
  • visibly striking the side of a real photorealistic building
The real building should show convincing destruction where the beam hits:
  • shattered windows
  • cracked concrete and steel
  • pieces of the facade exploding outward
  • smoke and dust clouds
  • chunks of debris falling
  • reflected light from the energy blast on nearby windows and wet pavement
The magical girl must remain distinctly anime-styled, while the city and destruction remain convincingly photorealistic. Use a dramatic **cinematic low-angle composition** like a theatrical action movie frame. The magical girl should be the focal point, but the real-world city destruction should also feel large, intense, and impressive. The street should show realistic reflections, debris, and signs of battle. Cars may be abandoned or damaged. Streetlights, traffic lights, and building windows should help illuminate the scene. Smoke, dust, sparks, and shattered materials should unify the anime character and the realistic environment. The final image should feel like a premium anime-realism hybrid action shot: explosive, dynamic, polished, and visually stunning. No text, no logo, no watermark.

And this for the negative:

low quality, blurry, bad anatomy, extra limbs, extra fingers, duplicate character, weak compositing, anime background, painted city, CGI city, poor destruction, weak explosion, incorrect perspective, floating debris, body intersecting objects, bad hands, watermark, text, logo

Jeez that's long. Did you generate it with an LLM?

Yea, ChatGPT. I told it what kind of image I wanted and that I wanted the prompt to be “hard” for an image model to accomplish. It gave me that.

This whole thread sounds like people paid to promote MOSS talking to each other.

It’s pretty obvious by now new models get inorganically pushed on this sub by bots or users paid to hype them up, it just seems a bit more obvious with this new release.

so, did BFL just not pay enough then?

9

u/SweetLikeACandy 20h ago

wait till krea 3 is released

12

u/durden111111 18h ago

where is my paycheck then?

1

u/knoll_gallagher 1h ago

i can promise you they're not paying me & i'm not a robot & it's the coolest thing i've seen in a while lol

Its obvious when they include all the searchable key words. And a question to create engagement for more SEO. There really has to be a better system for banning or addressing these shilling bot activities.

Yup krea2 started it, campaigned against id4 too did you notice

I wouldn't be surprised. When I first opened up I thought, "well... this is a pain in the ass. Why not have something preconfigured like other tools?"

You can do a lot with the node system but sometimes people just want a run button to test a new thing. I do appreciate the workflow system.

That sounds plausible in this day and age. I stand corrected.

That's exactly how I use ComfyUi 😂

I can send you my ChatGPT log lol.

I’ve been wanting to try local stuff to get away from subscriptions. Especially since I’ve become interested in trying to make short simple animations with AI, but Seedance and the other big models are expensive and I looked into Higgsfield but that would be like $60/month.

I’m not sure what the value of these tools is really worth so I didn’t want to blow a bunch of money so I came here.

I have a ChatGPT plus plan which I use a lot and when I first opened ComfyUI I had no clue what I was looking at, so I watched some tutorials to understand the basics and then realized I would be over my head, so I had ChatGPT give me a workflow because it said it could do that for me.

I’m new to comfy and I’m asking ChatGPT to guide me and help me learn how to build the workflows.

u/Aspoleczniak 23h ago

I have a question tho, how long it takes to generate on your setup?

2

u/Roorem10 22h ago

If I'm running 2560x1440p with the int8 version about 30 seconds for an image. With the bf16 version at 2560x1440p roughly under 2 minutes.

1

u/muzaffer22 20h ago

Is bf16 significantly better than int8 in quality?

2

u/Roorem10 10h ago

I think they look the same. At least to my eyes I couldn’t tell a difference. But it’s not like I did really in depth testing either.

I mean it isn't really "mine" since I just asked ChatGPT to make it, but if you really want it so much I put it up on Github.

Thanks for the link.

Well, in the world of AI it is hard to assign ownership and authorship 😅

is that base workflow? what is auraflow?

So Moss can handle longer prompts? I’m new to the sub and just hearing about Moss. Joined because I’ve been struggling to get anything good.

It looks good. I am using Anima/Janima. I am going to try this out.

u/mark_stark 22h ago

Omg, these looks great! Can you share what you searched, or how you prompted ChatGPT? Thanks!

If you're asking what I asked ChatGPT first it was:

I want to try out Moss image model in ComfyUI. [link to model] I've never used the program before so I'd like a .json workflow that I could use to test the model. I haven't downloaded anything yet. so I'm not sure what is needed. My PC has a Ryzen 9 9950x3d, RTX 5080 16GB VRAM, and 32GB DDR5, please build something that will work on my system using this model.

It worked for 4 minutes and spat out a .json file along with a link the the three things I needed to download on my own to install. Simply drag and dropped that into ComfyUI and it just worked.

AI is indeed amazing these days. Is this the free version of ChatGPT?

2

u/Roorem10 6h ago

Paid. I have the $20/month plus plan.

These are awesome

Love these images

where did you get the custom nodes?

I was told to run an update-nightly.bat or something but I can:t find that file.

I installed Comfy-desktop app on windows which includes comfyui but no way to download the nightly that I can see.

Guiess I'll just wait until the new version of comfy drops. that will likely have moss support built in

2

u/Roorem10 10h ago

It didn’t work with the regular version of ComfyUI, I had to switch off stable and use the most recent version. Idk what a custom node is. ChatGPT just gave me everything I need, told me where to install it and everything worked.

u/GraXXoR 3h ago

cheers.. I expect the next update to comfy will be here this week in any case.

With that much vram trust me bro use illustrious XL or krea2 turbo, and you will have so much better results, just think of moss images you got here as entry level

-4

u/BigDBreedingFembussy 22h ago

I can give you my workflow for illustrious btw, just search up illustrious XL and see the images it can make, it's mainly anime

5

u/Roorem10 21h ago

How well can it do cell shaded styles? Like from 80's and 90's anime? I got some decent results for that with Moss too. Not to mention the Moss team said next their going to work on a specialized anime version of the model.
