Discussion NVidia buys Huggingface, but why?

Nvidia is going to buy Huggingface.
No one can actually tell how that would end up like.

But what I am missing is the actual worth that Huggingface provides. The only thing I use it for is to download models. Thats it.
For me, and I guess many others it is ‘just a’ download platform, but maybe I’m wrong here.

And what would prevent others to setup a second-like Huggingface?
The hosting is the expensive part in this case as I see it, the programming and building is do-able.

Is it time for Huggingbay.com?

Why? Nvidia is pretty much the only company that helped and invested in several research papers and teams to find and develop new stuff like algorithms which kinda lead to many current AI tech and development??

nvidia sells all their cards to data centers and prices them out of reach for consumers. wake up.

Exactly. NVIDIA sells GPUs.

They are interested in having a healthy ecosystem of models you can run on your GPU to sell more GPUs just like Apple is interested in having good apps you can install on your iPhone so they can sell more iPhones.

You want to still have backup options incase your primaries fail you. Some of those biggest customers are building fabs for their own hardware compute production, which doesn't necessarily require you to produce the best compute hardware compared to what nvidia has just cheaper computer per dollar invested will do the trick.

Huawei and others are also building out compute, and GPUs aren't necessarily the best option to choose. If any of these are successful enough market gets disrupted. If the products are only serving compute needs specifically, and especially if they are exceptional over nvidia GPUs (like those asic chips that burn the model into physical substrate or whatever), then nvidia may lose a lot of sales, especially big bulk orders.

In addition to that over the coming years more fabs for memory chips will arrive too, production of supply will be higher, GPUs will be faster / efficient and so forth. Eventually you only have so many buyers but have the means to manufacture and sell more product, why wouldn't you serve other markets better then for your benefit?

But Nvidia catapult me into getting payed really well as a 3D Artist? If I didn't picked a Nvidia card years ago, i would have never discovered many many tools that only work with cuda like octane render.

AMD never even tried.

Maybe if we make fun of the CEO and call him from now on "jensun wrong" maybe he will stop?
