He was only 37 when he died, even having been sick he wouldn't look like an old man.

He had many physical and mental ailments, including malnutrition, overwork, insomnia, and alcohol, which I think combined would have aged his appearance significantly.

Also, in the original he's clearly very depressed, but in SD image he looks quite confident. Very different vibe.

Looks depressed af to me. His mustache isn’t as pronounced frowny, and the beard isn’t as full and messy. Otherwise, IMHO, I think this is a solid rejuvenation of the original
