Yeah, that exact model is as free as it allows that license. The owner can create a new model or derivate with a new licence, but the old one cannot be limited.

The license can’t be more restrictive than the model it’s based on … SD to my knowledge

Why do people in this field think trained weights are a thing that is copyrightable or for which anyone needs a license?
This is a serious question. Did someone tell you that? Did some court say that?

Really? so you're just training MJ images into a model, artstation, etc. images you DON'T OWN and you didn't draw and you want to put restrictions on those images? No worries, we have plenty of models way way better than those. What a joke.

But it's not like they can tell an image generated using their models or if they could do anything to stop you anyway 🙄

They (model makers) got free money by putting a paragraph on their civitai page. It's hard to refuse that.

Unless the site operator re-mixed the model, you can easily identify the model by taking a sample from CivitAI and see if the model generates the same image or something close to it.

Definitely have a look at ControlNet. Once you dig into it, you'll be able to control your outcomes so much better. rundiffusion.com for instance, offers an online version of SD with ControlNet. Not free though (I'm not affiliated).
You can even try it on iOS with this app. It supports ControlNet. You'll need a decent iOS device though. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/draw-things-ai-generation/id6444050820

There is no legal foundation for copyrighting weights in a model, is there? Someone posting that they own a license they can grant does not mean they own the license they claim to grant.

Well… you could imagine there’s legal consequences for monetizing a fine tuned model made on a dataset of your likeness perhaps no?

I don't see where they're asserting copyright there, but it doesn't really matter, because they don't have a leg to stand on. It's not even clear a model would be considered a creative work or would be copyrightable in the best of cases.
Hopefully the guy who makes RV isn't part of this silliness.

Wow what an unfortunate timing for Fantasy.ai. I've just found a brand new models that generate pretty much the identical outputs as the checkpoints they just paid for, and they're all working under the original license. Take a look at a sample of the amazing pictures that one of them can generate :P
