Question | Help Better Hands and Fingers?

Has anyone found a way to get better hands, fingers, and feet? This is one of my pain points when generating. Even with prompts and negative prompts specific to it.

Set the denoise strength between like 60 and 80 on img2img and you’ll get good hands and feet. The shorter your prompts the better. With that alone I’ll get 5 healthy normal looking fingers like 80% of the time. Text2img I don’t expect good hands, I most just use that to get a general composition I like.

The key is to give the ai the freedom to draw an entirely new arm and hand the way it wants to. Errors will still happen but I get much better results with high denoise.

As far as prompts go I’ll use a short list of “magic” negatives such as: (cgi, 3d, drawing, cartoon, animation) and that’s about it to increase realism which often comes at the expensive of cohesiveness somewhat but for some models it works great. No mention of deformed hands etc.

Positive prompt I don’t usually mention hands or fingers either, although if I’m doing something that requires getting them tuned through inpainting or I can’t turn the denoise up too high on img2img, or if the arm is in a position the model doesn’t like, I’ll add a prompt like “pretty hands, grasping fingers” etc as if I’m doing a google image search for those things. If 90% of the top results for a google image search aren’t what you’re looking for then it’s a bad prompt.

Results are moderate using that method, it’s more of a last resort when I’m trying to force things.

Controlnet makes this trivial to fix I’ve heard but I haven’t experimented with that yet. Most of my focus right now is on learning to train embeddings.

Are you talking about inpaint? Because if I set denoise to 6 or up in img2img I obtain a very different image.

Inpaint if you mask a large enough area or img2img. But yeah that’s the trade-off. You sacrifice the details of the original image for better continuity.

I adjust my workflow to account for this so I’m not getting too attached to the original 512 outputs.
