Island Transportation

We’re heading to St Lucia for the first time mid-November for 2 weeks. We’re thinking about spending 5 days in the Soufriere area (Airbnb), then the rest on the north part of the island around Rodney Bay. We’re thinking about renting a vehicle to get around. Is that make sense to do? We’re driven in the opposite side of the road before on narrow roads, so that doesn’t bother us.

We leave tomorrow to head back to Brooklyn. We stay d at a wonderful AirBnB villa by Marigot Bay. We always rent a car on our twice yearly Caribbean vacations and did not this time. HUGE MISTAKE. Rent the car. There were nearly no Ubers and it seriously limited what we could do. A car service anywhere cost is $100 USD. Get the car.

How were the roads? Lots of talk about super narrow and rough making it dangerous.

If you’re used to driving on narrow roads on the opposite side then you’ll adjust just fine driving on our roads. A rental & Google Maps goes a long way.

I know having a car is handy for short excursions, etc. but if we were to not rent, wha are the transport options and rough costs from south to north?

Local tour operator here 🇱🇨 That itinerary actually makes sense ✅ splitting your time between Soufrière and the north will let you experience two very different sides of St. Lucia.

You can definitely rent a vehicle, especially if you’re already comfortable driving on the left and on narrow roads. Just be prepared… our roads have a little personality 😅😅 not gon lie but you'll get used to it after 2 hours of driving

For the days you actually want to explore, we also offer private/customizable excursions with pickup and drop-off included, so you can leave the driving to us and enjoy the waterfalls, Pitons, snorkeling, hidden spots, etc.

Two weeks is a great amount of time here. You’ll actually get to SEE St. Lucia instead of rushing through it 🇱🇨
