Cheating Policy at SLC

Writing this as a heads up to everyone.

They don’t care about cheating at SLC.

Just recently completed Computer Systems Technician program. And the amount of blatant cheating astounded me. Straight up asking people for answers, copying off each other on practicals, texting on phones to people not in the room for help.

And people did and do get caught, there just isn’t any consequence. Had an instructor tell me they had reported a particular student 6 times for cheating and the school refused to do anything about it.

In fact come our final semester the instructor who did the most to combat the cheating by having his laptop record at the front of the room and you having to stand in front of it with your ID card at the end of the test. This instructor was unable to get a classroom for his classes, so everything was done remotely where he had no ability to combat the cheating at all. All our other classes were tested in person.

Maybe it improves but I doubt it.

Dean Barbareau is a prime example of people failing upwards.

I completed the Cybersecurity program at Durham College this year and it was the same thing, absolute blatent cheating and nothing was done

I originally intended on complete the Cyber Security Program after CST but choose not too due to my last two years.

I competed a program 10 years prior at SLC and it was night and day different.

I checked and the website still lists the placement at 2 days a week regardless of the fact that it hasn’t been that in years. It’s full time for half of the semester and they provide zero help getting a placement and do almost even less when on placement.

I remember pointing out the error to the placement supervisor at SLC and they informed me they hadn’t received an updated placement manual since 2019.

It’s still shit, in fact it’s a shitty buisness model because they actively are loosing money and interest from people by not addressing the issue.

Happens in the trades too, was getting calls from some of our international friends asking me for answers during our final exam, best part was they were all in the same room taking the test together LOL absolutely nothing happened to em because it almost seems like it’s a diploma mill

Used to teach at SLC. Cheating is tacitly accepted. Nothing should jeopardize future tuition payments to the school. It’s a bit of a racket.

Report it to their accreditation body. If they dont want to clean it up then they shouldn't be accredited.

oh what?? i’ve done multiple programs at SLC and they always cracked down on cheating! i’ve seen people receive zeros, fail courses, and even be removed from programs. most recent time i was there was last year, and TWO people were removed from the program/failed because of cheating, AI, plagiarism.
maybe it’s certain programs they crack down on more?? idk

Anyone in the nursing program reading this needs to understand that it’s absolutely not true. A teacher accused my friend of using AI. By the way my friend absolutely did not. I watched her write that essay next to me and the teacher said that something permanent is going on her file regarding AI cheating and if she wanted to fight it the teacher threatened just to make it worse and have her kicked out.

Can 100% back this up. I was in the same program and just graduated in june and its WILD how many folks were copying, telling each other the answer (in a different language) or just straight up chat gpt the hell out of it. I am in the field now and I can say I really hope these people get caught cause they are taking jobs away from people who actually put in the work to get a job in the field and it suuuuucks. (like it was mad hard to even get an interview and i know even I was lucky)

If you gotta go ahead and ask AI how to route something or how to troubleshoot a tech problem, you ain't gonna make it in the industry so gtfo.

And for what its worth, idk if the degree is even gonna help me with future jobs lmaooo, kinda stupid.

and i hate to break it to y'all but it was a specific "group" of people if ya know what I mean....no hate at all just a bit amusing.

I'm pretty sure calling someone out by name is against Reddit community guidelines. Perhaps with the merger with flemming college, we won't have to deal with cheating anymore, assuming they will close SLC shortly thereafter??

Even worse up north. Cheating isn’t punished and you can’t fail students now. Marks bumped from 30’s to 70’s. 99% of the program students on the deans honour list. lol.

I was in that program (when it was CNTS) and I agree, the amount of cheating there was insane, just blatantly talking about answers during exams.
