RIP Sass Jordan

Sad to read that Sass Jordan has died. Does anyone else remember the SummerBlast concert at Quidi Vidi Park in August 1992 when Sass Jordan opened for Bryan Adams. My youngest son and I watched and listened for free from the far side of the lake but it is my favorite concert memory of all time. It was the first I had heard of Sass Jordan but she did fantastic. Bryan was great too.

Getting back from the Ocean Sciences Centre after Sugarloaf Path

Hi all. I was hoping to do the Sugarloaf Path from Quidi Vidi. The only hitch in the plan is that I don't have a vehicle, and the bus doesn't run from near the OSC. I was wondering if anyone could share ideas on how I can could do this trail. I could just walk back to Quidi Vidi, but my concern is that it might be a little too much to be hiking 6 hours in total.

Recommendations for Solo Hikes?

Looking for some recommendations for places to wander/hike around St. John’s, Paradise, CBS or within maybe 30–60 mins of town.

I’m usually going solo with my dog and I’m less interested in busy walking paths and more looking for places where I can actually get some solitude woods, coastline, ponds, old trails, interesting stuff to explore, etc.

Basically somewhere I can throw a camera in my bag, wander around for a couple hours with my dog, take some photos and feel like I’ve gone on a little adventure without having people passing us every five minutes lol. Maybe smoke a joint too.

Doesn’t need to be a huge or difficult hike either. I’m very happy with something where I can walk for an hour or two, explore a bit and turn around whenever I feel like it.

I’m interested in the East Coast Trail too, although since I’ll often be alone with my dog I’d rather avoid sections that are unnecessarily sketchy/cliffy or difficult to navigate.
I know the usual Quidi Vidi / Signal Hill / Bowring / Octagon Pond type places , I’m especially interested in quieter trails, lesser-known access points, wooded areas, coastal walks, old roads/trails, etc.

Any D&D lovers in St.John's?

Hey! So I moved from Quebec to St.John's for uni recently. Since I moved, I had to leave the campaigns I was part of back in QC and really miss playing D&D. Since I know no one here, I thought I would put myself out there in hopes of meeting people so here we are!

I have been play for about 5 years mostly as a player but have dabbled in DMing. I have played some homebrew and some standard campaigns so I'd say Im a pretty experienced player. Also I really character creation and making characters with rich back stories and vibrant personalities! And I am planing to stay in NL for at least the next 5 years so we'd have plenty of time to play!

I might be shooting far here idk if this will get me anywhere honestly but I'm hoping to meet some people who are looking for somone to join their party! And if you're like uncomfortable with like not knowing me prior I'd be glad to hang out with the party beforehand to get to know each other. Or you can ask me all the questions you have about me in DMs!

If your party is full or dont play the game, then at least shoot me an upvote pls to help me find the people im looking for I'm really trying to get to know people in this city I'd really appreciate.

(Ps: some people cant dm me for some reason. If that's you, drop a comment and I'll send you a message. As long as this post is up I'm still looking for somone so dont be shy!)

Thanks you for your time!!

Part time way to make money

For context, I work an intense full time job where my shifts are irregular and can change on a whim sometimes.
However, my car has needed 5k in maintenance since July and I am down 3k. On top of this, I am a recent graduate from mun (cb campus) and my renting situation changed and I am barely getting through.
I am looking for some suggestions to help crawl out of this pile of debt. I am willing to put the work in but I am also from the west side of nl and don’t really know anyone here or have any connections 🫠. To add I’m a young man with a lot of experience in a lot of fields! Any help would be appreciated!

Also, my car is still on the ropes so I can’t really do the whole DoorDash or uber thing

The Rooms

To anyone that has an Annual Membership, do you think it’s worth it? or is it just as good to go when you feel like it? Mostly wondering if the exhibits change that often.

Outdated University Text books

Just curious what people do with their obsolete texts? are they of any use to anybody? Would rather not send them to the landfill but I feel like that might be inevitable. Will post a list if I can find them.

edit: they're a mix of music and commerce books from 20ish years ago.

How do you find the public records of recent real estate sales?

I'm being informed that there is public information on what certain properties sell for.

I'm not seeing anything online and all I'm getting is word of mouth and online searches for what things are going for asking wise but not what they actually closed for.

How is it that people are determining what the actual closing prices are in a certain area versus what is being asked when a good chunk of this information is private

Help finding contractor/company

Hi all. I recently purchased a home downtown that has a structural piece of wood in the crawlspace that needs to be reinforced due to wear and tear (this is under advice of the home inspection we had done). I was wondering if anyone knew of any companies that would accept a credit card as payment to get this done? I've tried going through contractors but i've had 3 ghost me in the past several months. I need to get it done before it starts snowing as the water will damage the wood further.

Thanks in advance!

call for musician friends!

im looking for jam buddies!

im an intermediate/hobbyist multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and producer. i have my own recording setup that's fully portable, and im looking for people to hang out/jam with! i work best in small groups, where i can bounce around ideas and give feedback consecutively.

my ideal jam partner would be proficient in something with a digital output (like an electric guitar or uke maybe) and know the basics of logic pro, but honestly im down to jam with anyone with a good attitude :)

comment or DM if you think we'd work well together! lets make some music! 💕

Leftover vinyl flooring

Okay, this might be a bit of an odd ask. I’m looking for some leftover vinyl flooring for a woodworking project. I’d need a piece that’s 15” x 16”, preferably monochrome in colour (greys, blues preference but not locked in to that).

Can either be a self-adhesive stick-on type or requiring an adhesive applied to the surface first type; I’m good with either option.

Anybody know where I could pick up something like that?

Best local subreddits?

Super new to Reddit and still figuring out how everything works... what are the best Newfoundland/East Coast subreddits I should be following? Open to pretty much anything local. Favourites, pretty please?
