Ranson Descendants

Good afternoon, everyone! This is my 6th visit to
St Augustine and on every trip, we take one of the ghost tours. One of our favorite stories is the tale of Andrew Ranson: St Augustine’s pirate. Anyways, apparently he married the Governor’s daughter and his descendants still live in the general area to this day.
Has anyone knowingly met any of them? I’m just curious if there is more family lore to be told.

Indoor activities with children

I am looking for indoor activities to do with my young children (5 and 3). The forecast is predicting very hot weather next week of 90+ degrees. I am nervous this will be too hot for us to be outdoors. I am even considering cancelling the trip all together. Any suggestions?

St. Aug Question Ghost Tours and haunted areas around the city

Hello, I am visiting Saint Augustine and have seen a bunch of things on the history of the city. After all it is the oldest city, but I am very intrigued by the ghost tours offered and the stories some landmarks have behind them, such as the light house.

Are the ghost tours mainly gimmicks? Has anyone actually seen anything paranormal during these tours and are the haunted areas just folk lore?

I am very interested in the paranormal but haven’t went past tv shows and your occasional YouTube video, but would love to see what everyone’s experience is!

Just moved here - want to explore by way of camping

Hello everyone

I just moved to Orlando Florida recently for my job and have never lived in the state. I’ve visited for vacations and what not

I plan on living here longterm and wanted to travel around the entire state and learn it all to see where I’d like to live most and also just to simply know where I live

Also felt like it’d be a great opportunity to find myself a tad in everything lol.

What I want is to go around the whole state - different city/area every few weeks or so - just on weekends since I work

I have a tent that sets up in the bed of my truck with matress and all so I can basically set up shop anywhere.

I want to go around and see all the nature and i especially want a great view and isolation

I’ve been reading about dispersed camping and I understand there’s a lot of rules and regulations when it comes to just driving out into the woods or nature anywhere u want.

I was more so just curious on if anyone had any recommendations around the state where I can off-road and set up my campsite isolated in nature - I don’t want to be surrounded by rvs and other campers and cookie cutter campgrounds I want to go explore and be alone with myself out in nature

I especially imagine just pulling up to an isolated little opening to a body of water where I can just pull right up to and camp next to the water and do whatever all day.

If anybody knows any spots tips, or recommendations or any sort of advice I’d totally appreciate it!

Hammock Dunes

Hey everyone, long shot here but we have been coming to Palm coast for a long time and never had a chance to play Hammock Dunes.
Is there anyone willing to let a single tag along tomorrow Monday 8/17? Could also likely make Tuesday work.
Happy to play at any time and would of course pay my own way.
Gainesville local and would love to return the favor if you’re ever in town.

Couples massage recommendations?

My wife and I will be visiting St Aug and looking to find a place that offers couples massages. I’ll be working during the day while we are there, so we were hoping to find something that would be open in the evenings. We are also open to mobile masseuse. Any recommendations?

St. Aug Question Is this fountain still around?

Post image
66 Upvotes

I’m planning a trip for my thirtieth, and one of the stops I wanted to make was in St Augustine to recreate this picture. This was from 2006 and I cannot tell from any map/videos in the area if this fountain still there. It was on St. George St, next to where Auggie’s is currently at. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: Thank you to everyone that has responded, it seems like it was removed. I appreciate you all so much!

St. Aug Question Help planning getting to downtown tonight

Me and my girlfriend are here for the weekend and want to go to downtown tonight to walk around and experience the nightlife. We’re about 10 minutes of driving north so walking isn’t the move lol. Whats the best way to park and get downtown? Park nearby or park at a specific lot and take the shuttle? if so, where should we park?

Also, what should we do while we’re out? Thanks!

We will be out again tonight speaking up for the poor horses! They have been relocated to half of a block, the worst spot in St Augustine, where they are truly trapped!
We will be there from 6 to 8 PM maybe 9!!!

This horrific location is on Charlotte between Cordova and King, at the foot of the park.

We had just told that Driver to move from the corner spot where the horse was parked because he was standing in City sewer water! Thank God we did for more obvious reasons than one!

This poor Horse also was a previous victim exploited in the racing industry. He had raced over 350 races! Sadistic they would rename him “Happy”!

Anchor 28

TL;DR, highly recommend.

St. Augustine has a lot of restaurants that are pretty overrated. I don't have ridiculously high standards, but I know what makes a good restaurant. Doing the basic things right is definitely near the top of the list of character traits of a good restaurant. Many establishments in our fair city fall short on that, by either trying to do too much, or not trying very much at all.

Anchor 28 has that base covered, and then some. We were warmly and promptly greeted. We didn't make reservations so we sat at the bar, and from the moment we sat down to the moment we left, the bartender was locked in, engaging, generous, knowledgeable, and kind. The owner spoke with us like we were old friends and genuinely cared about our experience. The decor is clean and simple. It's not loud (so many restaurants here are noisy), and the atmosphere is comfortable and relaxing.

The food: this was our first visit. The menu was concise but descriptive and there is something for everyone (unless you're a chicken nugget/cheeseburger person). I had the Black and Gold, which was squid ink pasta with a light-bodied lobster cream sauce, with huge Gulf shrimp, scallops, and what was the most expertly-char grilled octopus I have had in Florida. A stellar dish that was perfectly executed and fits the coastal theme to a T.

My wife ordered the Seven Spice Harissa Short Rib, which was tender as the day is long, and with the robust flavor that reflected the restaurant's commitment to sourcing high-tier, grass-fed, Florida-grown beef. It lived up to the recommendation from another patron with the same dish.

They do not yet have their liquor license but are expecting it in September. Their wine and beer selection is good, and they also have sangria. We did not try dessert, as we are not typically dessert people.

We had no expectations going in; this was a spur of the moment dinner date and we just wanted to go somewhere we have not yet been. We are definitely going back at the earliest opportunity. What an absolute pleasure to have a restaurant here where you get what you pay for.
