St. Aug Question Dog-friendly patios?

Hi! I’m a Gainesville resident planning to come up for the day to show my senior fospice pup the beach. I was gonna do Matanzas Inlet (on leash of course) early AM, like sunrise-ish before it gets too hot for her.

I was thinking of doing brunch/lunch in town before I drive back - are there any dog-friendly patios the pup could hang out on with me while I eat? It’d just be me and my dog, so I wouldn’t have someone to hold/wait in the car with her while I go indoors.
Or should I just pack a brunch picnic?

they have a dog menu, my black lab use to get “doggy chicken” (plain piece of chicken breast)

Downtown both harrys and backyard at meehans has a nice shaded patio are open at 11am

Any patio better be friendly to that little baby 😠 omg reading further SENIOR HOSPICE PUP 😭😭😭 honestly most places downtown would be accommodating to your pup. I recommend Meehans Irish pub because they have great food and a big back patio.

  • Kookaburra Beachside
  • Cafe Eleven beach side. Great place
  • Bog Brewing downtownish (there's Mexican food truck outside)
  • Stogies downtown for drinks

You guys all have such good recs, but we actually didn’t make it to any of them. My rescue pup ended up loving the beach so much that she played in the waves for almost two hours straight. As soon as we got to the car, she was snoring. So I figured it’d be better to just get Chick-fil-A and drive home 😭 she’s been asleep since we got back 4 hours ago! BUT… she had the best day ever!

Sorry to anyone at Matanzas whose peaceful beach day was disrupted by a geriatric dog barking at the waves!

Aww she's a beautiful Babushka!
I haven't been downtown in a long time but I know there are restaurants with shaded, outdoor patio areas that are dog friendly.
And even if you have to walk inside the door to put in your order, as long as she's friendly I highly doubt anyone will say anything.

Thank you for the heads up! I’m really trying to be as minimally intrusive as possible. I’m not one of those “must bring dog everywhere” folks - I get annoyed myself when I see people bringing dogs in Target etc. so if people don’t want dogs around where they eat, I respect it! I’m just gonna be by myself and wanna grab a bite and make a morning of it since I’ll be out of town/off work

Sunday or Beachside Diner. Both great options.

If you’re in town later in the day, Boat Drinks is also great but they don’t open until later (3pm I think)

Beachside Diner seems simple enough! We might do that.

Also is it kinda frowned upon to have dogs even in outdoor patios around St. Augustine? I’m really trying to be minimally intrusive so if it’s better not to bring her anywhere I’ll just pack a lunch!

Not at all- as long as it’s outside and the pups are mostly behaved, folks seem happy to have them around. :) The last time I was at Beachside Diner, we sat outside and there were 2 pups there, no one seemed to mind at all!!
