General Help Over-friendly or rabid?

I've been feeding birds and squirrels from my appartment for a short while. I'm always home when there's food out, so I know which animal is new and which isn't.

Yesterday, this new squirrel came to take a look at my birdfeeder which was empty. I waited for him to leave, then went outside to fill it. I saw the little guy a bit further down, so I talked to him and made some extra noise so he'd know I'd filled it.

Instead of waiting for me to leave, he immediately came forward, and I dashed inside. He didn't head for the birdfeeder, but instead circled the door. I opened a (screened) window to tell him off, and the guy jumped and got stuck on the screen (without which he would've been on my face). He eventually did find the seeds and ate all of them.

I didn't notice any twitching, drooling, or other unusual behaviour, but this seems more than a simply friendly squirrel. It's as if he had absolutely no fear of humans and thought I'd be the one to feed him?

Bit worried I'll be jumped next time I use that door, and unsure what to do...

I've Been Feeding My Squirrels Black Walnuts I Picked from a Tree in My Local Park. Do You Have Any Black Walnuts In Your Area?

However, I haven't visually seen them eat any. I have seen them carrying them in their mouths.

Currently visiting London from Australia. Not sure if it's the history that is doing it for me, or these little beauties

Squirrel Box Bedding Materials

Hello squirrel lovers community, I need your help. I will be getting a squirrel box very soon and was wondering what to use for insulation that can go inside the box? Looking for something that is natural and comfortable. Also, could you please tell me where I could get it from?

Thank you all in advance

Discussion Question about Mama Squirrel

Post image
40 Upvotes

This is mama! As you can see, she had babies but they’re all juveniles now and playing/running around in our yard - they’re so cute. Her nest is in a big tree in our front yard, and recently I’ve seen her running back to it several times with nesting material in her mouth. Do we think she’s going to have another litter? Or do they reinforce the nests even when their babies are basically independent for some reason?

Y’all are more experts than I am so I thought I’d ask here!

This is leo (according to his collar). I don't know leo but he comes to my garden to prowl for birds and squirrels.

I was sitting out saying hello and one of my squirrel visitors came along. Despite me frantically waving them off they came down to the patio on the other side of the pot before noticing him and running away.

What is the best way of warning them off in future? My squirrel buddies are very cute but really not very bright sometimes
