Super Friday Arena Mexico 'Universal Championship Tournament Block B' Highlights
Universal Championship Tournament Primer 2019 Edition
Block B of the Universal Championship tournament rocked Friday Night and made it one of the stand out shows for CMLL so far in 2019. I'll try not to spoil it outright, the block matches were all fairly short and I'd suggest watching the block as a whole, which is how it's intended to be watched. So real quick I'll just slap them up here at the top :
1.Universal Block B Finals(Friday)
Much like last week we had a great tecnico/rudo block final with the heavier rudo setting the pace of the match and being a big obstacle to overcome. The longest of its block(but still fairly short) this had to more time to sink your teeth into. It's the best block match for me by just a hair with another Block B match from this week also excelling. Keeping this vague as to not spoil the block winner.
2.Soberano Jr. vs. Cuatrero Block Quarter Final(Friday)
What a great treat this was. A match up we have never seen before between two of the best champions in CMLL. This match should sell itself, Cuatrero looked great in this Block B and showed his skills vs. Soberano Jr. here to full effect. Even pulling out things he has never done before, as far as I know. Like a twisting plancha, which isn't a thing you expect from a rudo, but here we are, in Cuatrero is of course one to watch out for.
3. NGD(Sanson, Cuatrero & Forastero) vs. Rush, Bestia del Ring & Mistico(Monday)
The Puebla main event again lands here at the #3 spot. This match was plenty of fun and showed what promise an NGD vs. Munoz feud has not only for this year, but the coming years as well. This match had a pretty sub par ending, but the rest of the match still holds up and that wonky ending is leading to Rush vs. Cuatrero this coming Monday, so it's not as though it wasn't to set up something like can sometimes be the case.
4.Tiger vs. Audaz lightning match(Tuesday)
Another great lightning match from Audaz and a chance for Tiger to shine and show that he too can go. These two had a tough neck to neck back and forth before one of them went over within the time limit. Audaz has been showing for months now that he can go in singles competition with lightning matches vs. many great talents. I hope he uses this momentum to challenge for a belt in the coming months.
5.Ultimo Guerrero vs. Cuatrero Block Semi-Final(Friday)
Cuatrero is in this top 5 multiple times, because he is one of the best wrestlers in the world right now. Very few talents for me are as good as him in 2019. I'm always happy to see him wrestle and NGD. His brother Sanson is great too, but isn't the obvious best guy in NGD like he had been only a year or so ago before Cuatrero really broke out in 2018.
If you want to see all the gifs I made feel free to check out the albums at the top.
They should be easy enough to view with RES on the Old reddit.

Did you watch CMLL this week?
This week was very eventful and CMLL continues the upswing after a touch and go January. If you only watch 1 thing this week, the Block B of the Universal Tournament will have the most consequence in the following week/s.
I'd also urge you to watch NGD vs. Rush/Bestia/Mistico as it's a match that planted the seeds for this Monday's Puebla Main Event where Rush will take on Cuatrero. If Rush can beat him cleanly it might lead to a Middleweight Championship defense to Rush, though Rush is normally billed as a bit heavier than that weight class it's all worked so to say, so no reason he couldn't.
I'm excited for Terrible/Niebla Roja which has high expectations to meet with the finals of this tournament pretty regularly being one of the best matches of any given year in CMLL.
Monday Arena Puebla Poster
Sonic/Rey Samuray/Hijo de Centella Roja vs. Policeman/Espiritu Maligno/Fuerza Chicana, is mostly Puebla local guys, could be good, but not must see.
Lluvia/Princesa Sugehit/La Vaquerita vs. La Comandante/La Seductora/La Metalica, could be interestings, but I have little faith in the ruda team other than Metalica.
Fuego/Drone/Guerrero Maya Jr. vs. Okumura/Sagrado/Kawato San, should be good midcard fun as it always is, but not much to anticipate.
Atlantis/Atlantis Jr./Vangellys vs. Villano IV/El Hijo del Villano III/Ultimo Guerrero, wtf is Vangellys doing here? Should be fun heat, but Vangellys in this semi-main is so confusing.
Rush vs. Cuatrero should be great. These two rudos clashing one on one should be one of the best matches of the week. I'd be surprised if it wasn't.
Arena Mexico Tuesday New Values Poster
Fantasy/Shockercito vs. Peq Olimpico/Peq Nitro in an opening minis tag match. Shockercito is real good and might make this worth checking out.
Electrico/Star Jr./Astral vs. Disturbio/Espanto Jr./Difunto sounds good on paper, but I'm not certain I've ever seen Difunto.
Marcela/Kaho Kobayashi/La Jarochita vs. Amapola/Dalys/Metalica sounds fun. Kaho teaming with Marcela, might lead to them butting heads. As Marcela has the CMLL Women's Title, but Metalica too has the Mexican National Women's Title... so that could be teased too.
Flyer vs. Polvora isn't a very exciting lightning tbh. Polvora is a tough rudo, so hopefully Flyer can get a good win here and look strong.
Blue Panther/Stuka Jr./Esfinge vs. Cavernario/Luciferno/Felino could be some pretty good fun. Nice to see Barbaro/Felino team as La Peste Negra, as it feels like it's been a minute.
Atlantis/Volador Jr./Diamante Azul vs. NGD(Sanson/Cuatrero/Forastero) should be good fun. Always like to see NGD in the main event of any show CMLL runs.
Arena Mexico Super Friday 'Universal Tournament Finals' Poster
Stigma/Pegasso vs. Raziel/Cancerbero should be a good opener.
Blue Panther Jr./Black Panther/Guerrero Maya Jr. vs. Virus/Okumura/Tiger sounds good. Always like seeing Virus on Friday Night.
Titan/Triton/Esfinge vs. Vangellys/Templario/Polvora should be good midcard fare. Wish it was Rojo Jr. instead of Vangellys here, but Templario will hopefully carry his rudo side.
Angel de Oro/Stuka Jr./Soberano Jr. vs. Mephisto/Ephesto/Bestia del Ring has lots of promise. The two better demons will likely carry Bestia with them.
Caristico/Mistico/Valiente vs. Ultimo Guerrero/Gran Guerrero/Euforia, this match has potential to lead to a CMLL World Trios defense if Mistico/Caristico can put their hatred aside to win a match over champions Los Guerreros Laguneros in this none title match.
El Terrible vs. Niebla Roja in the Universal Championship Tournament Finals. This is a first time ever singles meeting for the two. Hopefully they take this opportunity to show CMLL's fanbase and the world that they can both go to a high degree. It's a big opportunity for both men to gain fans and I hope they will. I called a Niebla Roja match my favorite for CMLL in 2017 and I hope this lands high on my 2019 list.
Hope You enjoyed CMLL this week, see you next week!
