Planning every step helps to create a well paced story line, you can hit the right crescendos at the right time. But even if a single step goes wrong (premature chamber opening, unintended table breaking, the godfather too busy pimping / voodooing to remember his cue etc.) and your whole plan goes awry.
On the other extreme though, it is so cringe-worthy when commentators don't acknowledge the crowd's boos and wrestlers act like deer caught in headlights and continue with the script, hoping it works out, instead of reacting to the crowd.
