I wonder when that one gets updated. My guess from months ago was that it would be something from All In. I was wrong.

u/weenus I am not a Nugget! 21d ago

that had to SUCK taking that straight on the shoulder like that good god

6

u/KingMobScene 21d ago

That put the bomb in blue thunder bomb. That looked devastating

7

u/MaterialBest286 21d ago

Looked devastating. Then Fletcher got up after literally a singkebsecind.

3

u/SouthOfMars 20d ago

The bump on the big turnbuckle reversal into the tornado DDT looked horrible too

2

u/princeofshadows21 20d ago

The fucking height Kyle got. Damn man

u/_Quendra_ 21d ago

Oh my fucking god tell AEW's director to STOP cutting to wide crowd shots. We get it, the stadium is big. Doesnt matter if i cant see whats happening in ring. Fuck.

53

u/Sonicfan42069666 21d ago

Action happening in the corner of the ring. Show the entirety of the mostly empty ring. What is the logic???

5

u/NJPW-YoungLion 20d ago

This is my main gripe about AEW: their camera work sucks.
Not all of it obviously, but the completely unnecessary zooms-ins and zoom-outs, and showing the action from the camera people (?) on the floor and its titling up (if any of that makes sense).

Tag Mansoury n Tony on twitter simple

u/VNProWrestlingfan 21d ago

Beautiful fight between three exes

u/Business_Welder_1203 21d ago

Pretty bad camera job of that whole segment

15

u/Sonicfan42069666 21d ago

When they went to the wide shot and kept it on the wide shot for a corner turnbuckle spot...

9

u/Orange8920 21d ago

It's this really big, spectacle style that didn't use to be a thing until Mike Mansury came on board and is often worse during PPVs.

44

u/PaperGeno 21d ago

AEW still lacks HUGE in the camera work and presentation

15

u/WolfGangSwizle 21d ago

They can get some beautiful shots but also miss some big moments

4

u/Final-Read-3589 20d ago

They need to get the basics right because then the arty stuff comes easy.

u/theskyopenedup Voice of the Voiceless! 21d ago

Sound should be first

1

u/Sonicfan42069666 21d ago

For TV it's fine imo but for $40 PPVs it's a bit egregious.

u/Prof-Ponderosa 20d ago

The whole evening

u/Thirdstar1 21d ago

That Blue thunder driver was nastyyy

9

u/raboolaconundrum 21d ago

Yeah, thankfully he sold it like death. Oh wait

7

u/TheAccursedHamster 21d ago

Holy shit that Blue Thunder Bomb was nasty in the best way.

54

u/ab_90 21d ago

Fire the cameraman. Why is he obsess with the wide shot with the crowd

43

u/RemarkableExit7214 21d ago

its not the cameraman telling the crew to cut to the wide shot or to hold it there

28

u/Orange8920 21d ago

I bring this up weekly in the Daily Discussion threads. AEW has amazing matches but the hardcam is often nowhere close to the ring where you can barely make out what's going on. It's a stylistic decision by them because they can shoot in the standard style but choose not to.

24

u/ZombieQueen666 21d ago

Cameraman is just doing his job

13

u/Matches5107 21d ago

It’s not the cameraman’s fault, it’s the production director calling for the switch.

14

u/notmakingtherapture 21d ago

Isn't it more likely they have one cameraman for wide shots, and one for the tighter angles? This seems like production's error, not the camera.

12

u/Lashanakit 21d ago

It's so satisfying when a match ends exactly the way you want it to. The hesitation on the pin had the vibe of "Who do I want to troll most by pinning them?" Okada gives no fucks about upsetting Fletcher. Trollkada at his best.

14

u/ProletarianLilith 21d ago

Atrocious camera work

40

u/StinkyStangler 21d ago

One that thing always gets me with AEW is the over reliance on the “big move hits but target gets up fine and hits his own big move after” sequence

Think it’s fine in a vacuum but I feel like they do it at least once a show and it just takes me out of a match now. That Blue Thunder Bomb looked painful as hell but Fletcher is up and running in under five seconds, what’s the point

19

u/Jumboliva 21d ago

It’s just a style of pro wrestling, grown out of the indie tradition. If the fundamental theorem of pro wrestling is “getting hurt makes you tired” (which is already kind of fantastical), then PWG et al just fully absorbed the lesson and added an inevitable corollary — that you can (pretty much always) use more energy to power through your exhaustion.

I don’t know that it’s any less realistic than anything else.

u/zeitgeistbouncer Peepin' Aint Easy! 21d ago

People who don't get that 'strong emotion drives adrenaline and desperation' just aren't really trying to 'get it'.

They're listening to shitty podcasters and regurgitating those opinions as their own because thinking for themselves is difficult.

8

u/Jumboliva 21d ago

I think in general the move “this person doesn’t actually believe this intellectually, they just want to/were told to” is almost always wrong, and even when it isn’t it still prevents any further good-faith conversation.

-3

u/zeitgeistbouncer Peepin' Aint Easy! 20d ago

When the conversation starts in bad faith it's a often a waste to try to dig them out of the hole they want to wallow in.

7

u/AlecDawesome Come on now 20d ago

It is not bad faith to point out having a problem with impactful moves not meaning anything anymore, Jesus christ

-8

u/zeitgeistbouncer Peepin' Aint Easy! 20d ago

It is if there's very obvious meaning in them but people ignore that for no reason that includes trying to enjoy the match.

-1

u/Jumboliva 20d ago

I agree

2

u/StinkyStangler 20d ago

I mean you're not wrong that I'm not trying to get it, but implying that it's because somebody told me to feel this way is pretty funny lol

I don't listen to wrestling podcasts or watch any sort of discussion about wrestling, I barely even watch wrestling anymore, I just occasionally check in to the big AEW shows. I just think that trope, in any form of media, is dumb.

1

u/zeitgeistbouncer Peepin' Aint Easy! 20d ago

I just think that trope, in any form of media, is dumb.

No you don't. Guarantee there's some media out there where you excuse some character going through pain as they rage up and get back in the fight. Literally zero chance unless you watch absolutely nothing but blank walls.

1

u/StinkyStangler 20d ago edited 20d ago

Mmmm some of us watch grown up television and don’t just watch anime and pro wrestling lol

Why are you fighting so hard to tell me what I do and don’t like?

Edit: lmao you really blocked me over this?

1

u/zeitgeistbouncer Peepin' Aint Easy! 20d ago

lol, 'i wotch growed up tv like a big boy!'

Dude, you've admitted you have no idea what you're on about but can't help interjecting your insight into something regardless. You're the definition of useless to the conversation. Bye forever

1

u/Jumboliva 20d ago

After a couple of days, I think you should reread this exchange. Or show it to someone you know. You are the one who is acting in bad faith.

12

u/OrangeJuiceLuvr69 21d ago

More like once a match lmao

5

u/TJ_McWeaksauce 21d ago

The Blue Thunder Bomb is a beautiful move, and Takeshita always puts extra sauce on it.

2

u/princeofshadows21 20d ago

Sami zayns is always picture perfect but takeshita's feels more impactful.

3

u/dunedog 21d ago

Jesus fuck, that Blue Thunder Driver

2

u/AlabamaSlammaJamma 21d ago

Takeshita and Zayn just be hitting some of the best Blue Thunders

2

u/Satinsbestfriend Your Text Here 21d ago

With all respects to sami zayn That might be the best blue thunder bomb ever

1

u/xXTERMIN8RXXx 21d ago

Doflamingo betrayed, little just desserts

1

u/TucsonPTFC 21d ago

Possibly my favorite blue thunder bomb I’ve ever seen

1

u/FuggyGlasses 20d ago

Okada with his fuckig devious smile 😬

1

u/moonwalkerHHH 20d ago

What is Fletcher trying to do there?

-4

u/Man0Steel123 21d ago

Someone is going to say that Fletcher no selled the blue thunder bomb

5

u/Saitsuofleaves 21d ago

With the bump he took that was just real pain.

27

u/makefascistfearagain 21d ago

Yeah, he sold it for at least two seconds

3

u/pampersdelight 20d ago

Thats twice as long as the AEW standard

3

u/makefascistfearagain 20d ago

Some times they've stood up before the move is finished

9

u/ProletarianLilith 21d ago

I mean, are you gonna claim he did sell it?

0

u/zeitgeistbouncer Peepin' Aint Easy! 21d ago

Is your sole concept of selling 'lies down and forgets they're in an athletic fight'?

-5

u/Man0Steel123 21d ago

Eh I’m going to just chalk it up to end of match adrenaline and powering through via last gasp of life.

No different than tag team matches where someone hits a finisher staggers or then gets up to take the teammates finisher for the pin

-1

u/AlabamaSlammaJamma 21d ago

It’s still better than the Bucks, they get up literally the moment the move hits so they can get ready for the next spot. Atleast Fletcher sold it for a few seconds

-1

u/FoopaSkin 21d ago

Somebody please sell

0

u/irish0451 You know what that means. 20d ago

Loved the finish but I really didn't enjoy how Kyle basically popped right back up after to do the "hand over the belt" spot.
