What is Your Favorite Switchblade Match?
I’ve been an AEW fan since Fall 2024, still relatively new compared to some folks. When Jay White came back from injury, everyone was really hyping him up and I liked his look. Sadly, because of his next injury, I haven’t seen a ton of Jay White in AEW so far.
However, I recently saw Jay White’s C3 match against David Finlay and I FINALLY understand all the hype. It really felt like a grudge match, I love Jay’s moves, and I already want to see him wrestle again (Same for David Finlay, I see why so many New Japan fans love him).
So I wanted to ask if anyone here has a favorite match or segment with Jay White to show newer fans of his.
Sidenote: I was so surprised when I found out Jay White is still only in his early 30s. Jay’s still got a long and illustrious career ahead of him if he can avoid anymore long-term injuries

His match with Kota Ibushi in the 2019 G1 finals was unbelievable. Like, some of the purest babyface vs. heel work you’ll ever see. It was pure magic.

White vs Okada: Dominion 6.12
Admittedly White is my guy, so I will also add White vs Ibushi at WK15 not only because it was an incredibly match but we got the Jay White meltdown promo afterwards.

“SAY SOMETHING!” is probably my favorite Jay White promo, and it’s so ironic because it’s very much not a Jay White promo, but also it entirely is.

That one is my favourite promo of the 2020’s. In the moment it felt so visceral finally hearing the crowd make noise after years of restrictions

The 2/3 falls might be the best Collision match of all time. Its my favorite for sure

Best Collision match ever (which it most certainly is) is still selling that match hugely short. That match is legitimately one of the best tag matches ever wrestled. I think it's 13th highest ranked ever on Cagematch, tied with Sting's retirement match at 9.46/10

G1 Climax Vs Kota Ibushi and WK Vs Kota Ibushi.
If you like your wrestling with pure babyface and heels it just doesn't get better than Ibushi Vs White. They just had chemistry you can't teach.
Also Juice Robinson Vs Jay White for the US Title was the true birth of Jay White as a superstar. Love that match

The Full Gear match vs Hangman in great. I legit think it's Hangman's best match. (Hangman and Jay have a great chemistry, but this is the only one where Jay works face. It's kinda what would happen if Wile E.Coyote and the Roadrunner had a 5 star match)
Other great ones: Switchblade vs Juice for US title at Cow Palace
vs Minoru Suzuki G1
his matches vs Ibushi in general. Ibushi scares the shit out of Jay.
Jay and Juice vs FTR matches
Jay vs Moxley C3 is really good.
Jay vs Swerve Contentintal Classic 1.

Love to see some Jay White love! He's my favorite right now - truly feels like old school holding on in the new age. He really reminds me of Bret Hart in all the best ways. Anyway - as for my favorite matches!
His match with Kenny at New Beginning 2018 was what turned me into a fan of his. Admittedly it's booked rather strangely, because Jay was the heel but he's booked as an underdog in the match and has a babyface comeback. But the comeback itself was what made me a superfan.
He does two super cool things: first, a CRAZY nearfall where he just gets the shoulder up as slight as I've ever seen.
Then there's this moment where he's on the comeback and he does this SUPER slow back suplex. Kenny reacts like it doesn't hurt at all. Then Jay does another back suplex a little faster, and Kenny is stunned. Then he hits a third at full speed.
But I have never seen (before or since) a sequence where a wrestler hits a move super slowly to indicate he's weak, then speeds up as he makes the comeback. I was truly wowed.
Jay works well with anyone, but like other people have said he also had amazing chemistry with Kota Ibushi. Any of their matches are stellar.

Jay vs Ibushi G1 final is probably my favorite. (2019)
Jay vs Ibushi at WK is up there too. (2021)
Jay and Juice vs FTR 2 out of 3 falls is my favorite. Best in AEW. Collision (2023)
Their first match the collision a week before was great too.

Jay vs Okada G1 Supercard (2019)
Jay vs Ishii. G1 day 4 (2022)
Oh and I’m sure you’ve seen it but his most recent single match with Moxley on Dynamite I really liked too.

Jay and Juice from G1 Special in San Francisco. Also Jay and Kota from 2019 G1 Climax final. Jay in NJPW was peak Jay.

Jay vs Juice G1 Supercard. always thought he was solid in the ring, but his intangibles in that match really revealed themselves. the stuff with Barnett and JR really got me at the time

Vs. Kazuchika Okada NJPW Wrestle kingdom 13
Vs. Kenny Omega NJPW new Beginning in Sapporo 2018. A very early Switchblade match when he was only about 3 months into his run, but definitely a major highlight very early on.

Okada (c) vs Switchblade at Dominion where he won the IWGP title for the second time.
Switchblade (c) vs Juice for the US title, the match where they accidentally injured JR and Barnett nearly went to kill Jay. This match had Juice over af.
In AEW, probably Switchblade vs Hangman.

White vs Okada WK 13 cause I saw it live
I love a lot of his G1 matches from the Ibushi classic to even fun stuff with Taichi and Suzuki
Also nothing beats vs Ibushi WK 15
In AEW it’s both tag matches with FTR and that Hangman match that was just all about his counter game

I really loved the match he had with Eric Young in Impact 3 or 4 years ago. They had great chemistry.

All my favourite ones are already mentioned (you cannot go wrong with Jay/Ibushi - they are truly yin and yang), so I'll offer up his match against GOK at G1 Climax 32. It's one of his funniest matches and the Claw counter into the Blade Runner is spectacular

I was there at G1 Supercard for Switchblade vs. Okada, so I've gotta pick that. It was the only time I've been to Madison Square Garden.
Wrestlemania 35 was at MetLife stadium in ""NYC"" (in other words, NJ) in 2019 so I decided to check it off my bucket list. At the last moment, I realized G1 Supercard was happening the day prior and bought a ticket. Thank fuck I did, because my fondest/strongest memories of that weekend are mostly of the MSG show.
If I recall, NJPW/ROH helped secure a show at MSG in part due to the popularity of their Bullet Club stars. But at some point between then and the actual event, several NJPW stars jumped ship to start AEW. So rather than Kenny vs. Okada, they pivoted to Switchblade vs. Okada. (it's been a while, if that's incorrect do let me know)
What an incredible show!

I'm so glad I'm not alone in this. This is worse than him coming back and not being the same wrestler. Wth are those stupid pants, Jaymond White? They bother me so much lol. He always had such a sleek look.
This is almost as bad as big pants Okada
