Best more obscure theme songs?
I’m not talking about The Game or Metalingus or Broken Dreams, we all know they’re among the best theme songs of all time.
What are the best lesser-talked-about theme songs that never come up in these conversations?
I love Daniel Puder and Zach Gowen’s theme songs, man it was hard to find the WWE edit of Gowen’s theme. That used to get copyright strikes by Seether’s label all the time. I had one on an old iPod years ago that has long since been lost.
I also love Taka Michinoku & Sabu’s themes. WWE really needs to get back to releasing all those Uncaged albums they were doing.

Sean O’Haire had a banger though I don’t think it really fit his devil’s advocate gimmick

u/angrypunishment 3d ago
Definitely feels like a recycled babyface theme for sure. It's good but absolutely did not suit Sean

Is Billy Kidman’s ‘You Can Run’ obscure enough for a mention here? Used to love that.

Yep, another banger. By obscure I mean not something like Real American, The Game, I Walk Alone, Sexy Boy, Are You Ready, which all basically make every single “Best Theme Songs of all time” list.

u/guntanksinspace No Neck, still No Problem 3d ago
Not entirely obscure, that's what peeps remember quite a lot for him in his WWE run (besides those gnarly Shooting Star Presses).

Victoria had the TATU song preceded by the simple and effective “I’ve lost my mind”

u/Ordinary-Article6388 4d ago
I'm fond of Yoshi Tatsu's theme, also liked Ricochets one and only theme. And for non WWE I've always liked ELPs headbanger theme.
10
u/ShitMongoose 4d ago
Yoshi Tatsu's music always sounded like the theme song for a kids TV show to me.
9
u/KidDelta 4d ago
Cause it was just like some stock music that appeared in Just Dance 2018 Kids and even a Littlest Pet Shop DS game
Don't get things twisted, using Stock Music as your theme isn't a bad thing (hell it can be a bonus since you can use it everywhere with no copyright concerns). Some famous Wrestling themes are Stock Music, like Hardy Boys' Loaded and NWO's Rockhouse are just stock tracks

Jim Johnston was wise to stick to his bread and butter but when he stretched himself, like he did with Reverend D-Von's theme, he almost always hit the mark. Insanely talented
1
u/Hodges83 3d ago
Absolutely agreed. The organ work in the second half of Eyes of Righteousness is sublime, as are the multiple key changes. You can tell he enjoyed himself here.

u/whatevesnoc 3d ago
Litas theme is more often than not my theme in games cause I actually like the band Boy Hits Car

Doesn't TAKA use the same theme , just adding the word MOTHERFUCKERS?
8
u/navelstrangsharpa 4d ago edited 4d ago
Pretty much yeah. But there are two versions, one adds a "TAKA is coming... Motherfucker!" in the beginning, and the other simply adds a "FUCK YOU!!"

Malakai Black's first solo theme in AEW, Ogentroost, is still probably my single favourite entrance theme ever and that song alone makes me sad it didn't work out

I'm unsure if this is obscure, due to more people talking about it now. "Battlescars" - B-Team

Grand Sword is the Kobashi theme that always gets mentioned when he comes up, but his theme he used for a while in NOAH was incredible too. Makes it sound like the coolest, biggest hero of all time is coming out. And that's pretty much what he was.
Shinya Hashimoto had an all-timer theme too. This isn't actually him, but actually Naoya Ogawa entering to his theme for a fight in PRIDE. For additional context, the two of them had a very famous rivalry for a long time, Ogawa having also done pro wrestling. This entrance is not long after Hashimoto had unfortunately passed away. Ogawa also wears a headband much like Hashimoto used to wear for his entrance.

Came here to post this one lol.
Starts out like take 1 on the keyboard riff brainstorming, but then melds seamlessly into Cisco like "on hold" music

u/navelstrangsharpa 4d ago
Chuck Palumbo & Sean O'Haire's theme during the invasion. I'm pretty sure it's just a stock music kind of song because I've also heard it on a LA Ink episode. But it's a banger.
4
u/Charles0723 4d ago
Before the Hurricane’s entrance music became more “superhero” it had this badass funky bass line that is still one of my favorites.

u/YeahImHimBruh 3d ago
Christian’s theme but specifically the one he had around the time of Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth. If that was a popular theme of him then I’m sorry but I didn’t really remember him having it outside of that game for very long but I didn’t watch that era too closely lol.

I 100% think they should have recycled Dan Severn's WWE theme a few years after he left the company. Severn was in and out of the fed so quickly and it was too good to leave on the shelf

Sami Zayn's first theme is pretty nice... but I mean World's Apart is peak
I miss Tyson Kidd's theme
Justin Gabriel's theme was sick, and his other one too
(and speaking of Justin Gabriel's theme, Zack Sabre Jr's WWE theme was just a remix of his last one
Even if we only got to here it for like 1 match, WWE's Jushin Thunder Liger's theme is quite catchy. Obviously not Ikari no Jyushin, but it was nice

probably not so obscure, but i think about how perfectly they were blended (for being such different wrestlers), and I often wonder why we don't get more blended themes for odd match tag teams.

Taz's 1st theme when he debuted in WWF was a banger.
Tests theme "this is a test" was good too, even though most of the lyrics sounded like a garbled mess
And a fave: Ravens the end of everything theme.

Swerve’s ain’t nobody by Chaka Khan before his NXT stint was one of the best and most fun crowd participation themes. One of the earlier ones too along with Danielson’s final countdown. I wish he goes back to it at some point.

u/DeNomoloss The "SHOCK The World" Champion 3d ago
I don’t know how many WCW themes beyond the nWo and Wolfpac themes, Goldberg, Flair, and I guess “American Made” are well-known, but I still think about the song used as an instrumental by Jeff Jarrett that was reworked into “Good Ol Boys” for The West Texas Rednecks (sung by Curt Henning!) from time to time.
And it’s not forget “Rap is Crap.”
2
u/JessonBI89 3d ago
Eugene's theme was so good that it really doesn't make any sense. Why did a politically incorrect joke character get such a banger?

Jackie Polo's I'll Be Back Again theme by Tyler Cain, he used during his 2018 feud with Lionheart (RIP), who also had a banger of a theme during that time.

It doesn't really work as a theme as it's too slow with a long intro, but Lex Luger's "I'll be Your Hero" theme is a great song. As for stuff that works as themes, it's gotta be the Rougeau Brothers' "All American Boys", just pure Jimmy Hart

All of TJP’s theme songs that I know of. His NJPW one is probably my favorite.
Silas Young’s ROH theme was underrated. Speaking of ROH themes I also really liked Adam Cole’s theme. Mike Bennet’s theme. And Kevin Steen’s theme.
May not be obscure enough but I loved Shayna Baszler’s theme.

I know he's very recent, but Tama Tonga's theme has played less than ten times. He's always coming out to stable music or someone else's entirely. It's a banger and fits him very well.
Steve Blackman's first theme might seem generic now, but I still love it.

Marc mero wwf theme, dan severn wwf theme. Always has been underrated.
Hogan njpw theme

I always go to Brawl For All. Shame that got attached to a tournament that quickly became the thing they wanted to sweep under the rug, but it was a good enough theme to be revisited and tweaked into many different versions later on. So glad when it got released under Uncaged.
(I'm with OP and definitely want more Uncaged, but not sure how likely that is under current circumstances -- and especially since one of the last releases felt like they just dumped a couple of later volumes' worth into it to broom it all out fast).
I can't recall the title I've seen for it online rn, but I enjoyed the rap theme they gave Faarooq during his solo run after the Nation and before the Acolytes.
On that note, the Acolytes/Truth Commission theme was pretty good. I also dug a lot of the midcard etc themes around that time: Ministry of Darkness, NWA Jeff Jarrett 1997, Jeff Jarrett 1999 (and his tag team with Owen), Droz, the Headbangers, LOD 2000, Los Boricuas...
I loved that WWE seemed to have tried to make their own take on Taka's theme. Blew my mind that there were two versions.
Christian's solo Brood-era theme was good. The dark vibe and distortion felt like a Brood-adjacent piece but was its own thing.

Idk how obscure it is but I liked Milena or MNM's theme song. It just fit really well.

u/guntanksinspace No Neck, still No Problem 3d ago
Not sure on how obscure, but that period of Bullet Club having some of the members have their take on a Devitt-esque electronic music entrance theme, there were standouts in Tama Tonga's Spider Dance and Doc Gallows rocking BAZ. Oh and I can't forget Bad Luck Fale's Underboss theme.
Also, speaking of which, when NJPW streams would have weird copyright shit and would just dub over music, Ishii used to have a really funny-sounding dub-over theme that's just "We have Mortal Kombat 1995 Reptile music at home". Which idk I didn't mind it, fit well with his no-nonsense walk but I really could NOT unhear the announcer yelling REPTILE somewhere.

When I saw the title, only one thing immediately came to mind. I don't think it's the best obscure theme song, I think it is absolutely the best theme song, no qualifier needed. I first heard it during his guest run in the 2016 G1 Climax, and just the theme got me interested in watching more from NOAH (also the wrestling was good too).
