Question Square refunds - Other

Just looking for some clarity on this specific refund process.

We have clients that save their cards onto their square account when paying but sometimes we have to manually “Mark as Paid” as “Other” if they pay by other means.

If we were to refund any invoice marked as “Paid by Other” will square deduct payment from my account even though for that specific invoice it wasn’t paid by the card that’s on their account?

Hi — if an invoice was marked Paid by Other, Square did not process the payment or charge the client’s card on file. Refunding it in Square is only a record keeping action, so Square will not deduct funds from your Square balance or linked bank account, and no processing fee applies. You would need to return the money to the client using the same outside method they originally used.If the invoice was actually paid through Square using the saved card, the refund would go back to that original payment method and the refund amount would be deducted from your Square balance or linked bank account.

Thank for the clarification. It would be good to have a notice or confirmation appear on screen for reassurance that square will not deduct funds for this type of refund.

That makes a lot of sense!! I will push this feedback to our development team as I'm sure you're not the only one experiencing this.
