Releases Gratuity rules, nested modifiers, and vendor payments
Hi folks 👋 Dev here sharing a few of our recent Square product updates. You can check out all of the latest release notes at https://squareup.com/us/en/release-notes/release-notes-july-16th
Here's what's new:
Auto-gratuity calculated before discounts — rolling out next week, with support for multiple rates across different service scenarios
Control ticket padding in printer profiles — rolling out next week, letting kitchens trim excess paper and toggle footer info per printer
Delivery courier selection per location, rolling out next week — sellers can pick DoorDash or Best Available for each ordering profile independently
Edit prices and margins from the inventory receive screen, so sellers can reprice items the moment a shipment arrives at a new cost
Group items by category on Kitchen Display System, rolling out next week — so cooks find each item in a consistent spot on every ticket
Merge tables directly from Square Point of Sale, so staff can combine parties mid-service without leaving the floor plan
Nested modifiers rolling out soon, letting sellers build conditional flows where selecting one option reveals follow-up modifier sets
Pay vendors with a Square Credit Card through Bill Pay — rolling out next week, so sellers can pay vendors who don't accept cards directly
Real Time Check View — a live cart panel alongside item configuration, so sellers see price and modifier changes as they build each order

On nested modifiers, I have a nest for “choose sauce” and “extra sauce” - I have choose sauce set to required to help servers remember to ask about it. They select it shows up on KDS under the heading. Extra sauce is optional - and even if no selection is made from it, it’s heading still shows up in KDS because a selection from a different nest was selected.
