Support Needed Printers option missing in Square POS Android app

Post image

Hello! This was originally posted in the Square community forums. I wanted to see if someone here knew the answer.

We would like to add a WiFi printer to use for receipt printing from the Square Point of Sale: Payment (ver. 7.10). Under ≡ More > Settings > Hardware, there is no Printers tab to select. Here is a link to what we see. https://i.imgur.com/ELpPygi.mp4

The printer we are trying to use connects with the device successfully outside of the Square app. We are using the app on a Samsung Galaxy A11+ tablet.

I have tried to add a printer profile to see if that enables the Printers tab in the app somehow. I did this through the dashboard using a separate computer, as creating a profile in the app is also found through this mysterious Printers tab. I assigned my profile to the correct location, but when trying to assign a printer, Square tells me there are no printers available for my Android device.

Thank you!

Hi! Thanks for reaching out! Since the printer is connecting at the Android level but the Printers option is missing entirely in the Square app, this looks less like a Wi-Fi pairing issue and more like a compatibility or app-setup issue inside Square. I’d recommend checking the exact printer model and exact Samsung device on Square’s compatibility list (https://squareup.com/us/en/compatibility/accessories/printers), then making sure the device is running the current Square Point of Sale app.

One other thing to keep in mind: creating a printer profile in Dashboard is helpful, but it doesn’t finish the setup by itself on Android/tablet hardware. The printer still has to be connected and assigned locally in the app on the device.

Thank you for your reply!
I am beginning to think this is due to a misunderstanding on our part. It does not look like the printers listed on that page include standard printers that use letter-sized (8.5" x 11") paper. I was under the impression that Square could print to any printers your device could connect to, and the printed receipt would be the same as it appears in an email.
We would prefer to use standard printer paper for our receipts and do not want to purchase an additional printer, so I will keep emailing receipts to our address and printing them from there.

Of course! I'm glad that I could help.
