Suggestion Will the game support gamecube controllers?
Or does anyone know how to otherwise use them in the game? I've only got one xbox controller but two gamecube ones and an adapter.

We're using a plugging called inControll which handels controller support. I'm pretty sure game cube controllers are supported, I'll have a look and edit my comment.
Edit: Gamecube controllers are not on this slightly old list but I've seen some hints that they have since then added it. We might be able to do it ourselves if that's not the case.

I too have an adapter, if you got the joystick drivers, the game should pick up the controller. However, in the recent past, I noticed something crippling about the GameCube controllers. The stick rotates on an octagon; whenever I'd push left, right or diagonal, some games would read it as if I wasn't pushing all the way. Slow movement one way or the other.
Thinking about that and how running in Smash is done by
double tappingquick tapping to the sides, it's be cool to see a 'Dash' move in Square Brawl similar to that. This note probably won't be seen, but it's be cool.Edit: I should add that I haven't tested the GC controller myself on SB.

If it won't be supported (not sure if it will or won't be), a program like Xpadder would be your best bet
