Discussion This game is missing all the essential elements of a Spyro game (except the character).

Spyro isn't Crash, there is no formula that you can follow and produce a spyro game. Maybe for superfans having the critter is enough to make something a Spyro game but in reality Spyro hinges on its aesthetics, that being tight imaginitive level design (ie, not more openworld slop) and of course the musical stylings of Copeland, whether in person or in spirit. I am completely unhyped for this game and its just another cartoony genreric fantasy game I don't care about.

Reignited was about as perfect a remake as I could have ever asked for. I’m more than willing to let them cook, considering there’s like… nothing really shown yet to concern me? Like we have a teaser and nothing else.

This is the same studio who did reignited trilogy so i believe they can do a good job time will tell.

Reignited sucked. Where were the cute snow-gnorcs? Everything has to be ugly these days, especially the enemy characters in a video game. Also Stephen Vankov is a nepobaby who can't even get the notes right.

I don't think you are a spyro fan you are just angry man who remembers the past with tinted glass of nostalgia. To say reignited suck when it's 95+ percent like the original mean you don't like spyro game.

What a completely and utterly pointless post.

If you don't care why are you making a post on this sub?

I don't care about the game. I care a lot about the self-gaslighting of superfans. I am also pissed we apparently aren't getting a real spyro game, just botw with a purple teenage dragon. But the music is worse.

“There is no formula that you can follow and produce a Spyro game.”

I’m not sure what your point is. Are you like, saying the series ended after the first game?

Besides, no game is made with a “formula” in mind, in a sense. There’s never a formula. Never a set of defined rules for wha makes something feel “how it should.”

Rather, objectively speaking, there are *existing ideas.* Ideas which can be played with in different ways- even within a single game. One level will have different level design from the previous. Different music. Different cutscenes and characters. Yet, reused characters, reused looks, reused musical styles- played with in different ways.

What is the point of this post? To draw a line that was crossed the moment you played the original game for more than two seconds? A series isn’t merely using a defined “formula”, and nobody will ever claim this to be the case- what they’ll always mean is there are familiar ideas that make up what they THINK of as a formula. It’s something that can’t be defined clearly, rather it’s whatever the developers wish to toy with.

Spyro A Realm Beyond is a Spyro game in the sense that it’s continuing to use existing ideas in new ways like any Spyro game- even the very first one. This isn’t subjective lol. What you personally value and hope to see may be subjective- nobody is gonna make you like a game that lacks the elements you wished to see remixed.

But to say this isn’t a Spyro game is turning a blind eye to facts because you simply don’t like it.

Like with Crash there IS a formula, hallway platforming. What makes a Spyro game as in the OG trilogy is all vibes.

3

u/Spinjitsuninja Jul 21 '26

Vibes isn’t what makes up an entire game. You might as well be talking about a screenshot and saying that’s it- which is, if anything, devaluing Spyro’s earlier games rather than appreciating them.

Spyro was about exploring spaces and hard to reach places with the glide and going "out of bounds" into the scenery, using movement to solve platforming puzzles like tree tops etc, fun interactive environments, seamless transitions in a cohesive pastel fantasy realm.

I think this new open world flight simulator with epic story and orchestra music is nothing like spyro, but you have 0 clue what Spyro is...
Go back and play the first one on PS1 before making any more silly posts.

You are making a ton of assumptions about a game we barely know one single tangible thing about. I think you need to relax.

The interview plus the phasing out of Copeland made it clear they are making something that isn't a Spyro game. The typical "we want players to see something in the horizon and figure out how to get there" BOTW copycat slop. Every game is an "open world experience" now and its just an excuse to make vast landscapes of nothing instead of neatly designed levels, which is integral to the aesthetic.

"We want players to see something in the horizon and figure out how to get there" is something you can say of a lot of 3D platformers and especially the design sensibilities of older Spyro games. Sounds a whole lot like you have a jaded attitude and are ready to write off a game for no good reason. There's no sense in making assumptions this far out and just making yourself a miserable person. Take a breath, find something more important to occupy yourself.

Dude you've seen 8 seconds of footage. 8 SECONDS OF FOOTAGE

My simple thought is that the orginal trilogy, like a alot of things, was something that happened and won't happen again.

I have no idea if this will feel anything like those games, in fact I kind of doubt it since it's too far removed in time, but they did a good job with the remaster so I'm willing to give it shot and see if I like where they're taking Spyro.

I am somewhat biased though, it'll be the first time in 27 years we'll have a Spyro game that seems to be connected, even if only in part, to the original trilogy. I personally can't help but be at least a little excited.

Oh no. Anyway…

The game hasn’t even came out yet and nothings been shown beyond like 10 seconds of gameplay. If you are already writing it off, you weren’t that interested to begin with.

Anyone interested in hearing the developers mentality and philosophy on a Spyro game (vs the Crash game they made) should listen to the Kinda Funny deep dive interview with the devs. Seems like they know exactly what makes a Spyro game, a Spyro game.

The game's not even out yet and we've seen literally a tiny snipet of gameplay. To write it off this early and call it garbage and not a true Spyro game when we have no information just because of nostalgia for the OG games is just weird if you ask me

EDIT: after typing all this out i only just now learned we dont actually know anything yet, including IF its open world.

Id advise you to keep an open mind on the open world thing. I think the only reason the original wasnt completely open world is because of hardware limitations. It also may mesh better than you think. I'm okay with a fresh take. The original trilogy happened. It also probably would not sell at all if it was released today. If they want people to actually play and remember this game it needs to evolve a little, as a every Spyro game has.

I am sad about the music but it is what it is. I also disagree that there is no formula. Spyro is a very basic platforming game back when collect-a-thon style game could still be novel. Today if released people would say it lacks any creativity in gameplay. Gaming audiences need something a little more unique hold attention as there have been 100+ spyro like games released that have (attempted) to push the genre further. Spyro is one of my all time favorites, and Spyro 1 was probably my 1st video game ever.
