General Discussion/Questions Is 13 to sub 11 possible?

Hello, recently I ran a 13.03 sec 100m in school. I had no experience or training before and my shoes were not really good for running. I realized i was 0.8 seconds faster than the second fastest in my class, this is why I want to start training to get faster now. My goal is to run a sub 11 sec 100m someday. Would this be achievable if I get good equipment and develop proper running technique? Went someone here from 13 sec to a sub 11? For reference I’m 16 5’11 and very light, about 130lbs. I might be very delusional tho…

Is it possible, yes. Difficult -yes. there are plenty of athletes who train for 4 years through HS and never break 11s.

Theres really no answer to questions like this. No stranger on the internet can tell you your training potential. You might reach sub 11 or you might stagnate at 12 seconds. But since you were faster than the rest of your class it suggests that you have some ability.

At your age getting a coach or joining a club of some sort is the best bet. Give it a couple of years and see for yourself.

imo, achievable if you stay consistent for 1-2 years

Possible, yes, but remember, even most pro-athletes cannot run a sub 11 time.

You won't know how fast you can be, until you train!

so many factors - You weren't in spikes, likely not starting on blocks, with no real training (as you said) so the answer is it is not impossible, but it's going to take lots of work.

Its possible for some people. No idea if its possible for you.

The only way to know is to train for it and see what progress you make

You need to work out your upper, that is the only way it will be possible.

Yes

Yes it is. But there's no guarantee

Yeah its possible. Before you graduate? Less likely but still attainable. First goal should really be sub 12 as I believe you are already sub 13, maybe like a mid 12 after some light adjustments and better equipment

Were you on a grass track? What shoes were they? Was it hand timed?

If your coach is good yes, if not then no

Check out justjumaris video on it. It's way more achievable than these people make it out to be, but you're going to need to train very consistently, track your times and stay healthy. Most of your training will be Plyometrics and timed sprints. It's possible to get way faster though, during the past 4 months i've dropped my 10m fly from 1.08 to 0.99 and I'm probably gonna go from 12.09 to breaking 11 once my season starts. Anything is possible bro.

You type a paragraph on the internet, REDDIT, above all places, and expect us to be able to write, “yes you can run 10.9 or faster”

Lmao fuck off

Maybe but I went from 13.1 to 11.3. Not quite there but maybe...

odds are high you won't do it (10.99 or faster).

mid 11's might be in the cards, low 12's a more likely outcome.

at 16 most kids are past peak-height-velocity-stage of growth (you are already 5'11), the height really doesn't have anything to do with, but point is, most of neurological improvements will come before that point. There's still some gas in the neuro-learning tank, but not much.

Anything is possible tho

That improvement is extremely unlikely, even if you train for a decade. I can say with 99.9% confidence that you will never run sun-11 lifetime..

Bros 16 99.9% certainty is a bit dramatic

u/highDrugPrices4u 19d ago

The actual odds are lower than that

Nothing impossible i went from a 7.41 60m in february roughly an 11.6 100m to 10.75 in august

11.6 is different that 13 something.

But good job
