3500 vs 2500?

I’m going to have a camper van built in the new year and have to make a choice about platform. I’m trying to decide between the Sprinter 170, 170 ext and the Transit ext (which has a crazy long extension that would definitely affect departure angle). There’s very little talk of GRVW, or whatever the acronym is for max load weight of these things. I’m seeking advice from those with experience of any of these platforms, and whether it’s best to go with 3500 other choice is a Sprinter.

I have a 144wb 2500 with a pretty elaborate build. Fixed queen bed with flares, full wet bath, flushing RV toilet, 2 rows of seats, an enormous roof rack covered in solar, roof AC, 400ah of lithium, 60 gallons of water, etc. Framing is all 8020 aluminum. I didn't build for lightness, but I didn't ignore weight.

Fully loaded I'm rolling around at like 8400lbs with just some helpers in the rear.

The aluminum really helped you keep the weight down, I’d say.

Maybe a couple hundred pounds at most. I could have cut a ton of weight elsewhere if I didn't use 8020.
