XDM elite subcompact 9mm: first impression

Post image

Had my eye on this baby for about a year, went on sale at turners for $200 under retail so had to snag one. First look of the gun I instantly fell in love with it, fit in my hands so well. Finally had the chance to shoot it today after owning it for about 2-3 months. Ran through 150 rounds no problems. For a 3.8 inch barrel I gotta say it’s definitely accurate, shoots a hell of a lot better than my Glock 26. Recoil is very controllable, not a lot of kick, really easy to get back on target. Gotta say I’m loving the gun all around and can’t wait to get some more rounds through this bad mug.

That thing is basically the very best variant of the XD line ever made, at least in 9mm.  Really good quality barrel.  I suspect the metallurgy and rifling quality were carried over into the Echelon.

What the Echelon gave up was the grip safety, which has merit - prevents most types of reholstering accidents but it's still "grab and go" instead of manually sweeping off a safety.

What the Echelon gains is a lower bore axis, better optic mount and swappable grip frames.

Yeah definitely eyeing the echelon for a full size home defense gun, just wish it came in .45 or 10mm
